Never forget: disorder is bad, the ultimate failure of politics. Riots, political violence, looting, arson: it's not fun. It's not glamorous. It's also almost never the prelude to greater justice or the means of improvement. It's just miserable, for the poor usually most of all

Has anyone written a script that will mine bitcoin for the remainder of each minute in an @github action? We're paying for the full minute on so many actions that take < 10 seconds.

I love the way the "Members Exclusive Content" @britishmuseum is, err, not exclusive at all. Got to britishmuseum.org/members-ex… and browse away. I've yet to find anything behind any authentication, let alone authorisation, barrier.

I'm intrigued that people still put out this sort of stuff in the age of Reader Context. Surely having a post where everyone who reads it gets the note effectively saying "this post is so disingenuous it's pretty much deliberately dishonest" just makes Reform look bad?
Kemi Badenoch said she was Nigeria's national chess champion at age 7. So we sent a reporter to Nigeria to find out the truth. She lied. Here is everything else she has lied about:
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The actual interview transcript does not support Reform’s description of Badenoch’s claim. She said she won a national chess competition in Nigeria, then explained that “there were only two girls who entered”. She did not claim the overall Nigerian national championship title. x.com/VictoriaPeckha…

Our current system just changed to multiple transferrable voting would enfranchise everyone but quite likely still result in majority governments. And would be a great defence against the extremes, allowing moderate voters to vote for literally anyone but the extremist.

This is getting beyond a joke, @github . It's virtually every day.

Seems relevant to the interests of @holland_tom , @dcsandbrook and @TheRestHistory

Fundamentally, this poll does not show what Patriotic Millionaires say it shows. It just shows that people at all levels of wealth think people wealthier than them should pay more tax. Who knew?

Be quite interested in @TomChivers take on the advice currently being broadcast by @SkyCricket to lie to your GP if they are reluctant to give you a PSA test. Not much mention of Bayes' Theorem.

Replying to @Eurostar
@Eurostar just cancelled our train to go on holiday. Didn't even warn us! I only found out when I logged in to do my API! Train travel; I can live with expensive and slow, but unreliable is just utterly unforgivable.

Oh, and the eurostar iPhone app currently never gets past the loading screen. Good work kids. Good work.

An another thing that struck me hearing about the Tapestry this evening - how, like Domesday, it seems to be a bit of a one off? I know Domesday has Carolingian antecedents, but I don't think they're as comprehensive, and certainly nothing similar was attempted again in England.

I wonder if there's something particular about that period that results in such ambitious projects (and how fortunate that they both survive...)
