The British Crown Dependency of Guernsey has just passed a law that allows the police to reject any complaint they wish without investigating it.
Today the Committee for Home Affairs has announced changes to The Police Complaints Regulations, with the aim of improving the way complaints are handled.

Scrutiny has my full support in seeking to give Guernsey’s Freedom of Information Code real teeth.
Transparency should not be optional.
Accountability should not depend on goodwill.
This is a vital step towards ensuring the States of Guernsey is properly held to account for its duty to be open and transparent with the public it serves.
At present, far too often, it feels as though getting answers is a battle in itself. That needs to change.
The Scrutiny Management Committee has asked the Policy & Resources Committee to make limited amendments to Guernsey's Freedom of Information Code as part of ongoing work to strengthen the Freedom of Information appeals process.

We tried post civil service reform to get things changed. Indeed, we had a successful amendment but had no P&R support and the result was heavily watered down into the CS code of conduct. MyGov and PEH modernisation show real change needed now.
A confused public is easier to control.
When the language around this plant gets blurred, people can’t make informed choices and communities are left carrying the consequences.
Stewardship starts with clear education, honest standards, and keeping the people closest to the plant in the conversation.
Who should have the strongest voice in shaping the plant’s future?

Deputy Niles told islanders 50% would be better off under the tax package. I’ve asked him twice by email and now publicly to show the figures.
All I’ve had back is an invitation to coffee.

I would really appreciate some honesty and a direct answer from you please: if you misspoke, this is the time to admit it. If you cannot evidence your claim, just say so. Which is it?
Terrible news for 🇬🇬

What's not generally appreciated I think is how savagely Gsy already taxes its less well off compared with the other Crown Dependencies and even the UK.

Don’t worry: an inflationary and regressive tax, on top of a budget that increases the cost of living even more, will definitely make things easier for you.

The road beyond this plant on prescription must take us to a better place.
When I fought for Billy’s lifesaving medicine, I just wanted him safe and well, with a chance to live his life.
And when he changed the UK law, I honestly thought other patients would finally be able to breathe a little easier. That they wouldn’t have to fight quite so hard for help. Yet here we are, still talking about costs, access and whether someone’s medicine will be available next month. We need industry to do proper research and provide patients with a real route to NHS access. I wanted better for Billy, and I want better for them too.
But we also need an honest conversation about adult use. Surely a prescription shouldn’t be the only way we make room for this plant?
That’s why I’m pushing forward with TRACD: to explore a separate, carefully regulated adult-use pathway, test it properly and learn from the evidence.
I haven’t got every answer. But I do know we’ve come too far to stop asking how things could be better.
What would a better place look like for you?
1 in 60 people in Guernsey are experiencing homelessness.
Last week, the Government decided to introduce a regressive, inflationary consumption tax.
This week, the Policy and Resources Committee released its budget - which raises costs and inflation, and gives States Members the option of reneging on its promise to make savings.

The Budget and response to it confirms what I've said for years – whether @Govgg makes meaningful savings or not is entirely voluntary. A broken system cannot ensure fiscal discipline or even prudent spending.
