One of the lads at work had a tyre fitted the other day. He’d always gone for part-worns to save a few quid, but this one turned out to be over 26 YEARS old — and he only bought it around 14 months ago. That’s not a typo… twenty-six years old. @Tyresafe @BYLCRoadSafety

"The introduction of measures to keep new, young drivers safer in Northern Ireland is a positive step forward for road safety and one we would like to see implemented across Great Britain. “There is significant evidence to show the risk of a crash increases with every peer-age passenger in the car with a young driver at the wheel. To know this and to still allow young drivers and their passengers to place themselves in this situation is wrong and needs addressing. “The current consultations on the Government’s Road Safety Strategy include some of the same measures which will be implemented in Northern Ireland, namely the logbook and minimum learning period. But they do not address the increased risk of peer-age passengers. “Hopefully this proactive move by Northern Ireland to protect its young people will pave the way for our Government to take a similarly decisive action against the 1,376 people killed or seriously injured in a young driver crash annually*. Our own analysis shows at least 58 lives could be saved every year through this type of measure.” *Reported road casualties in Great Britain: younger driver factsheet, 2024 - GOV.UK @SharronHuddles2

If you wouldn’t wear shoes with holes in the soles, why drive on tyres that are worn, damaged or underinflated? Tyres are your only point of contact with the road. When they’re compromised, so is your safety. A visual inspection can reveal issues you cannot afford to ignore.
