How should AI trading research actually be done? These 10 steps matter more than asking AI to predict whether the market will go up or down. 1. Start with a testable hypothesis Not I think it will go up, but a clear idea of what you want to study and validate. 2. Backtest with real data Historical data, market structure, and different timeframes should all be included. 3. Test parameter combinations systematically Compare different lookback periods, volatility targets, and rebalancing frequencies. 4. Turn strategies into executable signals Indicators are not conclusions, and signals are not trades. Position sizing, risk, and execution logic still matter. 5. Higher returns ≠ better strategy Evaluate return, volatility, maximum drawdown, Sharpe ratio, win rate, and overall stability. 6. Include real trading costs Fees, slippage, and funding costs can quickly erode paper profits. 7. Always run out-of-sample validation A strategy should not only work on historical training data. Walk-forward testing and unseen data matter more. 8. Use AI to automate the research workflow Pull data, generate configurations, run backtests, record results, filter strategies, and produce reports. 9. Let AI handle repetitive research, while humans define the boundaries AI is well suited for computation, organization, and validation. Humans should remain responsible for constraints and final decisions. 10. Focus on what actually matters over time Start with data and hypotheses. Keep failed results. Test with real costs and unseen data. Simulate first, then move to live trading. The core of AI trading is not making AI more aggressive. It is making research, execution, and validation more systematic.

Ledger Hardware Wallet Incident: Over $86 Million in Suspected Theft On October 9, reports of unusual fund losses among Ledger hardware wallet users drew widespread attention across the crypto community. On-chain researchers initially estimated that the suspected losses exceeded $86 million, involving multiple networks, including BTC, ETH, and TRON. At present, there is no confirmed evidence of a systemic vulnerability in Ledger hardware wallets. The actual scale of the losses and the attack methods remain under investigation. Timeline of the Incident According to public reports, the incident primarily involves users in Southeast Asia who purchased devices through the reseller CryptoBilis. Ledger has confirmed that it is investigating reports of fund losses and has instructed CryptoBilis to suspend product sales and shipments. As of October 10, publicly available information indicates that: Multiple users have reported unauthorized transfers of assets from their wallets. On-chain researchers estimate that suspected losses exceed $86 million, although this figure has not been officially confirmed. The incident appears to be associated with a specific distribution channel. Whether devices were tampered with or recovery phrases were compromised remains under investigation. Official guidance recommends that users who purchased devices from this reseller within the past 90 days postpone initialization. Users who have already initialized their devices should consider transferring their assets to wallets secured by newly generated, trusted recovery phrases. Why Can Hardware Wallets Still Be Compromised? The Ledger incident highlights often-overlooked vulnerabilities within the hardware wallet security framework. Hardware wallets reduce the risk of remote attacks by keeping private keys offline. However, asset security still depends on the integrity of the entire usage process. If the device supply chain is compromised, the recovery phrase generation process is untrustworthy, or users sign malicious transactions, their assets may still be at risk—even if their private keys are never directly exposed to an internet-connected device. Therefore, offline private key storage is only one component of a comprehensive security framework. Trusted device sourcing, secure recovery phrase management, and transaction signature verification are equally important.
Ledger is investigating reports of loss of funds from users in South East Asia who purchased products from a reseller named CryptoBillis. As a precaution, and pending the results of our investigation, we have asked CryptoBilis to pause all sales and shipments of Ledger devices. We recommend Ledger users who purchased from this reseller in the last 90 days to not initiate set up if you have not done so yet. If you have set up your Ledger device, consider moving assets to a new Ledger signer (with new seed). We will continue to inform customers of updates as the investigation progresses. Reach out to Ledger customer support through official channels with any questions: support.ledger.com/

Justin Drake issued a striking warning: the entire industry should begin preparing for a potential “Bunker Mode.” AI is advancing mathematical research at an unprecedented pace, turning a question that was rarely discussed before into a very real one: How long can the cryptographic security assumptions we rely on today remain safe? In the past, discussions around blockchain security mainly focused on computing power, software vulnerabilities, private key leaks, and social engineering attacks. But AI introduces a completely different variable. It may not need more computing power to brute-force cryptography. Instead, AI could discover a more efficient mathematical method that humans have never found before. That is why the real impact of AI on cryptography is not simply that it can “calculate faster.” It may fundamentally change our understanding of how difficult certain mathematical problems actually are. From ECDSA and elliptic curves to lattice-based cryptography and zero-knowledge proofs, cryptographic systems ultimately depend on a set of mathematical assumptions. If AI continues to compress the timeline of mathematical research, the key question for blockchain security will no longer be: “Is this system secure today?” It will become: “If the underlying security assumptions change, can this system upgrade fast enough?” A truly secure blockchain in the future should not depend entirely on a single signature scheme or one fixed cryptographic framework. Of course, AI is not only a tool for attackers. The same technology can also be used for: Automated vulnerability discovery Formal verification Smart contract auditing Cryptographic research Protocol-level risk monitoring Faster design and validation of new security mechanisms AI will keep challenging old security assumptions, while the industry must use AI to build new security systems even faster. As intelligence evolves faster, on-chain security must evolve at the same pace.
Today I call upon the blockchain industry to calmly begin planning for "bunker mode". My personal recommendation is to set in motion a controlled mass migration of assets to fresh addresses, i.e. addresses whose pubkeys remain hidden behind a hash. Holders, starting with large and sophisticated ones, should consider moving the bulk of their funds to addresses that have never signed a transaction. And when they do sign one, they should also move remaining funds to a new address (possibly generated from the same seed phrase). Don't rush. While I believe there is cause for action a rushed migration would do more harm than good. Don't panic either. Moving assets to protected addresses is a simple, preventative step which does not require new cryptography or new wallets. IMO it is now reasonable to brace for the possibility that ECDSA breaks before qday, in the worst case in months not years. By "break" I mean fast private key recovery (e.g. in one week) on available hardware (e.g. a large GPU cluster). Recent days have been humbling for human mathematical intuition. Long-held, unquestioned hypotheses have fallen. This includes the n log(n) bound for integer multiplication and the 3SUM conjecture. In hindsight, May's unexpected disproof of the Erdős unit distance conjecture was our warning shot. Yesterday's OpenAI drop made it clear that mathematical superintelligence is upon us. They say there are weeks where decades happen. We are about to live through weeks where centuries of mathematical progress happen. Could our magic 64-byte ECDSA signatures be too good to be true? Was it just security through obscurity all this time? Elliptic curves feel especially vulnerable to superintelligence. Curves carry rich structure, with room for fancy tricks like Schoof, Frobenius, pairings. (By contrast, hashes are designed to minimise algebraic structure.) Separately, as Ewin Tang can attest, an efficient quantum algorithm sometimes foreshadows an efficient classical one. We should be open to the possibility of a classical counterpart to Shor that breaks elliptic curves and RSA at once. Also noteworthy is the striking under-representation of cryptographic breakthroughs among the 722 mathematical results OpenAI published. I've witnessed first-hand the US government censoring academic quantum cryptanalysis results. Backroom interventionism is my base case. I urge large, sophisticated actors to lead by example. Project11's "risq list" (bitcoin-risq-list.projecteleven[.]com) is a great tracker of exposed BTC pubkeys. Binance, Bitbank, Robinhood, Bitfinex, and Tether have an opportunity to harden their cold storage. Next month I'll address institutions in London in a live Q&A (forum.ethereuminstitutional[.]org/london-2026). Again, please do not rush. Wallets holding under 50 BTC enjoy partial cover from "Satoshi's shield", i.e. his 20K exposed addresses that hold 50 BTC each. Load-bearing signers like oracles and L2 security councils should consider rotating ECDSA pubkeys with every signed message and/or multi-signing with a hash-based schemes like SPHINCS. Exiting bunker mode safely will require post-AI cryptography. My inclination is to go all-in on hash-based cryptography and avoid structured mathematical assumptions entirely, whether from curves, lattices, or isogenies. A single battle-tested hash (e.g. from the SHA or BLAKE families) yields plausible post-AI security. The Ethereum roadmap on strawmap[.]org fully embraces hash-based cryptography with end-to-end formal verification as a response to the quantum threat. Those timelines must now be revisited and accelerated in light of mathematical superintelligence. I'll be pushing for maximum defensive acceleration.

Tom Lee @fundstrat believes this cycle could become “the biggest crypto bull market in history.” His reasoning goes beyond price action. He points to four structural drivers: institutional tokenization, generational wealth transfer, continued crypto accumulation by DAT companies, and the rise of AI × Crypto use cases such as AI Agent payments. One point stands out: AI Agents may increasingly use crypto wallets to make payments and settle transactions autonomously. That’s where the next phase gets interesting. Crypto may not just be an asset class for humans to trade — it could become the financial infrastructure for autonomous agents.
