Can you define what a competent person looks like?
Have they completed their training, do they understand it and do they use that knowledge appropriately & effectively in their role?
5.a The ORR says: Competence is the ability to work to an agreed standard on a regular basis. It involves practical & thinking skills, experience & knowledge, and may include a willingness to follow agreed standards, rules & procedures.
5.b Depends on what needs to be done, in what circumstances and how well.
Many of us perform the same tasks daily, sometime without even thinking & often with different results, so can you truly measure measure competence?
