Full art film out today! Trade my Troubles (short film).
In an era of fast paced everything, we wanted to take our time and make a slow piece of art for the senses.
This 15 minute film is the culmination of many years of documentation, living, grieving, loving, losing, and finding our footing between it all .
From the ravages of Hurricane Helene across Appalachia to the wild Pacific Ocean of the West…
This is the imagery that has accompanied our lives.
Deep deep bow of gratitude to
@earthbased.media for making it real
Take your time with it. YouTube link in comments.

Some songs are older than the people singing them… we pull our deepest influences from the wellspring of traditional music. The final song on our newest album is a fiddle medley into Red Rocking Chair, an old Appalachian traditional we hold close.
Featuring Duncan Wickel and Brittany Haas on driving fiddle, and a full dance sound, it’s a song that has been passed from player to player across the mountains for generations. We hope it pulls you closer to the traditions that you carry, and lifts you into the old stories of these fiddle tunes.
Our full fall tour and 2027 dates are now live along with the album!
Dig in, listen to the full album from beginning to end, and come be a part of these live shows.

New album OUT today!!!
Trade My Troubles, our most recent, full length studio album, has been in the cooker for a LONG time, making its way into this world slowly and more carefully than our past recordings.
This one wanted some time. Spaciousness.
To breathe a little on its own (in the studio and on the ground) before stepping out into the public.
We do our best to follow the muses and let the art out when it’s ready, and thus we are so excited to finally fell ready to release this 16 track body of new work. As always, the songs are as varied a collection as the lives we have been living….
From becoming mother to returning to motherlands. From the threads of our survival of the great storms of Helene to the windswept Wild Atlantic of our Irish songlines. To elemental odes to laments for the sweethearts gone awry to ballads of our Appalachian home turf.
This music is an honest reflection of the joys and sorrows we have been living.
In many ways this work is more personal, more introspective than past albums, written from quiet and vulnerable spaces in the body and psyche, without the stage in mind.
The central theme, however, is in continuum with much of our work; that of dirt church nature worship, banjos and ballads, and bass and drum to lift the spirits and move the bones. To shake it out!
Please listen however you take your music in, from beginning to end, with the arc of a great journey in mind. For that is how we made this.
We are honored to present to you Trade My Troubles. Rising Appalachia.

New single "Million Colors," out today featuring Ayla Nereo.
We couldn’t write a new album without writing a song that shakes up the dance floor. Million Colors was written after becoming a mother and recognizing the massive potential of love to grab the reins of life and lead the way. I knew the love of family and sweetheart and friends, but the new dynamics of the love I was experiencing sort of blew open the airwaves of my spirit. I was shattered by the love I have for my son, broken open in the best of ways and reminded of the core of existence.
I reflected lyrically on the zillion forms of love that we experience in a lifetime and felt the jubilance of that somatic tethering. Love of place. Love of persons. Love of god and spirit. Love of self. Love of life.
We are unstoppable when love is the force behind our actions and movements, dignified and well weathered. This song calls out as a reminder to harness whatever form love is playing out in our lives and allow it to move up, through, and around you.
I wanted to feature my dear friend Ayla Nereo as a vocalist in Million Colors because of all the many people I know, she truly lives her life in full devotion to the spark of love. You can see it in her daily movements, her family, her music, and her soul. She is the perfect compliment to the piece.

New single out today, "Battering Ram," our third single from the upcoming album Trade My Troubles.
Leah and I swooned when our folk-music master bandmate Duncan Wickel first sang us his song, and said "girls I think this one is for you"... It's raw and sensual and dangles deliciously between the masculine and feminine motifs of the lyrics. The central theme is that a lover's soft words can smash into you with the force of a battering ram. It croons and caresses and leans into the rhythmical pulse of the cello and stripped down three part harmony. Folk music is just that. What a gift to be given a song to make our own.
New single out today.
Heartbreak is as timeless as stone, and we have all danced its messy dance. Shattered and stoic. Unkept and wildly alive. Brutal at the altar of the heaving heart.
“Chance at Wholesome”, is about all of that and more:
The beast that slays you when love goes wrong.
The carnal wilderness of the rib cage churned into a raw shade of the deepest crimson.
When love is good it comes rushing in like a pulsing full spring. But when it goes to ruins,
it will render you useless;
cleave you by the roadside,
surrender all your grace.
It is a grief like none other… and you allllll know that feeling;
That half written poem.
That chance at something wholesome…
I fell in love with the wrong one. One who could not hold me up, so I was held down. One who could not be an anchor, could not be a safe space, could not be a psalm… And so that book was never written. I walked away from that storm, hands clean.
Grief holds a potent Poet’s tongue, but so does a clean, rushing river…
What else can one do but turn the page and sing.
And sing we did.
Chance At Wholesome, our second single from this forthcoming album… Full song and video out now, wherever you stream your music.
In Love With The Quiet- out everywhere 🎶
Y’all, our first original song in quite some time is out in the world. Apropos that it’s timing up with the birth of my new baby, as this song is all about the love of the quiet spaces in life. JOMO (the Joy of Missing Out). Stepping out of the rush and into the realms of solitude and sanctitude. I have always led a quiet life and found my power in that which turns inward, turns to the forest, turns to the back of the dusty bookstore. We lay down our burdens by the waters, by the plants, and by the stones. We retreat to the creekside majesty of cricket and crawdad. In an era of noise and relentless stimulation, this song sings out to the softer side of life. We truly hope this song reaches you in a beautiful way and reminds you of the quiet spaces in between.

Notes from us sisters and the babe from our summer porch …
full length brand new album begins its release roll out THIS Friday .
This one has been such a long time coming.
We are so excited about this new music.
First single out June 12th
🤲🏽
It is a good thing when life is too full of 3 dimensional living to be tending to the cyber realms.
Rowdy things are growing along this sweaty summer horizon.
New songs making their shapes, art finding its footing between the lusciously full days.
Gardens to keep watered.
Summer is soon to be thick as thunder, bursting like fenced wildflowers, spilling over into buckets of ruby-throated overload.
Bio-mimicry. Perch-view thinking…
I have been craving the perspective of a high up above place.
The birds eye /hawks nest/ long range view of the world, and our tiny footsteps within it. It conjures wide lens thinking. Patience. An innate sense of wholeness.
.
.
Sometimes it can feel quite murky from the forest floor level of living. Lush, and saturated by stunning summer growth, but also crowded by an ever-enveloping jungle; human or otherwise.
The vistas from way up here, where the birds ride great thermals and you can see for hundreds of miles in every direction; the crevices of valley,
the shape of peak,
even the patterns of the wingspan from above gives great levity
to thought.
Distance lends its welcomed hand in the
long game views.
Indeed, it even offers majesty through its revelations. What wonderful, tiny creatures we are. What a vast world surrounds us. What a much larger orchestra is at hand. Our presence is simply bellows.
breath and heart.
.
.
The power of perspective is a
magnificent, holy tool.
.
.
The feral viewpoint will always be my religion.
- Leah Song Musings…
Stand like an oak
An aspen
An alder
Its in you, dont faulter
And if so than i got you
Fake it, walk taller
Anything that makes you feel smaller
Leave it by the angels of the water
Push em up push em up
Put away your cares
Fold them, fold them
Fold up your fears
