The Geico Caveman is loving this Leafs performance

On the 10 year anniversary of the 1st Matthews vs Laine battle. Gavin McKenna scores a beauty against Ivar Stenberg and the Sharks

PATRIK LAINE JUST SCORED HIS FIRST CAREER HAT TRICK. The 18-year-old scores the tying goal before burying the overtime winner as Winnipeg erases a 4–0 deficit to stun Toronto 5–4. The No. 2 overall pick has officially arrived.

Last thought on Sergei Bobrovsky. These were Frederik Andersen’s monthly stat splits when he first came to the Leafs in 2016/17. Look at that first month versus the rest.

I think the unpredictability of the Leafs defence has caused some issues in Bobrovsky’s game recently. Specifically since Tanev went down. Devan Dubnyk spoke about this weeks ago & talked about how although the 2017 Wild gave up a lot of shots it was controlled + predictable

Auston Matthews finding space off the puck and Kirill Marchenko having the heads up presence to make that pass. Beautiful

Taking a look further at Bobrovsky’s goals against from SAT (defence aside) Goal 1: -When he comes across he isn’t square to the shooter. -It also looks like he falls behind Duclair on this play. Then is trying to catch up.

Essentially he’s banking a lot on this being a shot. The fact that he got over and made the first save is a testament to the power in his skating. It’s a shit sandwich from the defence, but if he sacrifices some depth he would’ve had an easier time with the first shot

Overarching aspect between both goals: Bob playing aggressively and it throwing off his positioning. This is how he has played his entire career. Should he be looking to adjust how much he challenges? We’ll see.

That is some dreadful zone entry defense from the Leafs

Prior to this the Leafs 4th line did a great job wearing down the Sabres and keeping the puck in the ozone

What a release from Kirill Marchenko. 2 on the night

Great pass by Matthews and a nice engagement from Blankenburg. But UPL extends to make the save

That was a huge save by UPL. Really nice feed from Matthews to Blankenburg

This does give the leafs a little bit of contract flexibility. As they were close to the 50 contract limit.

William Nylander fooled the hell out of 3 Mammoth players and Vejmelka. What a pass
