incredible. $root is live in 37 states and the cheapest of any carrier in 17, while also having best LR's in the industry. lowest rates + lower LR means superior segmentation, which is the entire bull thesis playing out.

interesting portion of the roundtable interview that wasn't in the initial cut. Key takeaway for me is the doubling down on OEM partnerships - hard to imagine he'd keep banging this drum if there wasnt meaningful progress happening.

great new Alex Timm interview on $root.
My favorite part was on capital allocation around 16 mins in. See's share buybacks super attractive here but investing in tech is by far the best ROIC at the moment.

🚗 One statistic that caught my attention about $ROOT:
Root has now sold 200,000+ insurance policies through its embedded partnership with Carvana.
Based on Carvana’s vehicle sales since launch, that works out to roughly a 16–18% insurance attach rate.
Now consider this…
🇺🇸 Hyundai sold about 902,000 vehicles in the U.S. last year.
If Root achieved the same 16–18% attach rate with a Hyundai-sized OEM, it would translate to approximately:
• 16% = 144,000 policies/year
• 17% = 153,000 policies/year
• 18% = 162,000 policies/year
That’s roughly 75–80% of all the policies Root has accumulated with Carvana since early 2022—generated in just one year.
The bigger takeaway isn’t Hyundai specifically.
It’s that Root has demonstrated consumers will buy insurance at the point of vehicle purchase. If the company can replicate that playbook with additional OEMs or automotive marketplaces, the embedded insurance opportunity could become significantly larger.
