Mark my words: Blair Fetter and his superiors are going to regret how they handled the Stargate IP and its fandom. It might take a few years, but the chickens will come home to roost.
I'd expect nothing less from former Netflix executives, though. Such a shame... #SaveStargate

"Individual science fiction stories may seem as trivial as ever to the blinder critics and philosophers of today, but the core of science fiction, its essence… has become crucial to our salvation, if we are to be saved at all." — Isaac Asimov (namesake of my company's next-generation product)
Some people in my tech/startup/AI circle who've never heard of Stargate ask why I care so much, and why yesterday's post got far more attention than usual. I first saw SG-1 at ~6 and was hooked. It's the one thing I can point to that shaped how I think about leadership, science, and what it means to be good at what you do.
Hammond trusted his people and put his career on the line to protect them. O'Neill showed you can be irreverent and still deeply principled: you never leave your people behind. I still measure myself against both. Carter and Daniel made being the smartest person in the room look like the coolest thing in the world; problems were solved by thinking harder, not shooting harder. Add Teal'c's integrity, and you had a team where everyone was competent, nobody was made dumb for plot convenience, and capable people disagreed, respected each other, and had each other's backs.
That's why I opened with Asimov (whose words also appear in SG-1's 200th episode). Good science fiction matters. It gave a 6-year-old role models I'm still trying to live up to.
If you build things for a living and haven't seen it, start with SG-1. Thank you to the cast, crew, writers, and creators behind nearly 30 years of Stargate. @AmazonMGMStudio, please give it the care it deserves. #SaveStargate @bradtravelers @BaronDestructo @MichaelShanks @afullcirclepod @dial_the_gate
If anyone has connections at Amazon, I think someone from the engineering/business side needs to step in to prevent Prime/MGM from killing a golden franchise. I’m seriously going to be telling my AWS account rep that I’m going to take my ~$40M and growing to $100M in business to Azure or GCP if they are going to ruin this.

Amazon Sparks ‘Stargate’ Fan Revolt After Scrapping Franchise Veteran for Divisive ‘WandaVision’ Creator
“Amazon MGM Studios has managed to infuriate portions of the Stargate fanbase before filming a single episode of its latest attempt to revive the beloved science-fiction franchise. The studio is reportedly handing the property to Jac Schaeffer, the creator of Marvel Studios’ WandaVision and Agatha All Along, just four months after abandoning a revival developed by an established Stargate veteran.
The decision is particularly controversial given Schaeffer's history with Marvel, where she faced criticism over her treatment of established comic book characters and openly admitted struggling to understand the source material she was adapting.”

#SaveStargate’s mission hasn’t ended. It’s changed. This is the point in time we do not throw the baby out with the bathwater (I know- a cliché), we regroup, define the changed mission, and Stay United. Quitting, giving up, throwing in the towel, walking away gives Amazon exactly what they wanted - existing fans out of their way.
Now we need to not just keep up the pressure, we need to increase it. Together. United. #KeepStargateLore

WHEN DID THE AUDIENCE STOP MATTERING?
We live in a time when genuinely excellent television, with passionate audiences ready and waiting to watch, can be cancelled or abandoned while executives move on to the next project.
And I honestly struggle to understand the logic.
Companies like Amazon MGM Studios and Netflix invest enormous amounts of money in television and cinema. They make decisions about what gets produced, what gets renewed and what gets cancelled. But somewhere along the way, it feels as though the people making those decisions have forgotten something fundamental.
Without the audience, there is no entertainment business.
It is the public who subscribe to streaming services, buy cinema tickets, watch the shows, recommend them to friends and keep franchises alive long after a season has finished. We are the people generating the demand that makes these businesses profitable in the first place.
So why are the voices of those very people so often treated as an afterthought?
Of course, producing television is a business. Budgets, viewing figures, production costs and commercial risks all matter. A passionate fanbase cannot guarantee a hit. But surely, when thousands upon thousands of people are actively campaigning for a programme, demonstrating their commitment and making it clear that they want to watch more, that deserves serious consideration.
And this is exactly why the fight to #SaveStargate matters.
Look at what the Stargate community has done. Fans around the world have organised, signed petitions, raised money, funded billboards and continued to make their voices heard. This isn’t a handful of people reminiscing about an old television show. It is a passionate community demonstrating that this franchise still matters to them.
There is an established universe, decades of stories, beloved characters and an audience that wants to see Stargate return.
That doesn’t mean success is guaranteed. But it does mean there is a conversation worth having and an opportunity worth properly examining.
In the age of social media, audiences are no longer limited to quietly accepting a cancellation and moving on. We can organise across countries, demonstrate our support, reach decision-makers directly and show companies just how much interest still exists.
That is something executives should be paying attention to, not dismissing.
The audience shouldn’t necessarily make every production decision. But its voice should carry real weight, particularly when a dedicated community is actively demonstrating demand for a franchise.
Because what is the point of creating television and films if the people who watch them are treated as though their opinions don’t matter?
Entertainment is supposed to connect with people. It is supposed to make us laugh, think, feel, escape and become invested in worlds beyond our own. When a story creates that kind of connection, surely its future deserves more than a decision made behind closed doors.
@AmazonMGMStudio, @netflix and every major entertainment company need to remember that audiences are not just numbers on a spreadsheet. They are the reason those numbers exist.
Listen to the people who watch. Respect the communities that support your franchises. Recognise the demand when audiences show it to you.
And in the case of Stargate, please recognise what so many fans around the world are asking for.
We want this universe back. We want new stories. We want the opportunity to keep supporting a franchise that has meant so much to us.
The passion is here. The audience is here. The opportunity deserves to be taken seriously.
Entertainment exists because people want to be entertained. It’s time the people making the decisions remembered that.
Amazon MGM, the audience is here. The opportunity is here.
Open the gate.

I'm not even kidding. @amazon shareholders should sue @AmazonMGMStudio for choosing NOT to profit from a @martingero Stargate show and instead focusing on "the new audience" which is code for Woke bullcrap nobody wants.

Well, that's disappointing. @amazon dumped the @martingero Stargate project, they've announced one working with the creators of Wandavision. They're going with someone no one will watch instead of something they'd have millions of fans watching.
Oh, well, SG-1 forever.

Most of my friends did not go after the low-hanging fruit that is the show being produced by a woman. They brought up that people who worked on the shows we love were fired for people with no connection to the franchise or its fans. You went for the low-hanging fruit making accusations because you have nothing to offer a real discussion.
A lot of a certain type of people are mad about this simply because the showrunner is a woman. They haven’t even heard the premise yet but have concluded that it’s going to be terrible. I for one am very excited for some new Stargate. I think it’s a franchise that has not been able to reach its full potential.

We'll continue to show our support, stand up for the universe we love, and make our voices heard about what we want for its future.
We welcome new stories, new characters & new adventures, but we also want the established canon respected and our original characters honoured. And wouldn't it be amazing to see the original actors return, even for a cameo? ❤️
We're excited for Stargate's future. We just want it to remember its past.
The mission continues. 💙

While it is harsh and unfair to judge something solely based on the little information so far, I have very little faith in their announced writer/show runner based on her track record. Amazon/MGM announced at the end of last year Martin Gero as showrunner for a continuation in the same universe as SG1, Atlantis, and Universe with a writers room full of the original creators and writers, and then suddenly cancelled that just as they were about to start production. I’m not particularly excited about any Stargate production that does not take the over 250 hours of legacy, character development, lore, that made SG1 and its descendants the greatest science fiction franchise… and the best way to ensure that is good is to use the cast and crew that made 17+ years of fantastic storytelling.
