Guitar stuff- Oddball combination
OK, wasn't expecting this. Running Sunn through MTI Tubes preamp into Farfisa revolving horn cab. What's surprising that the late 60s 8" & 12" speakers (crossover?) the Italians put in sounds pretty damn good, even without spinning the horn.

What do you think are some of the best live albums? Here are some that come to mind quickly for me.
Seconds Out -Genesis
Frampton Comes Alive- Peter Frampton
Live and Dangerous - Thin Lizzy
Get Yer Ya-Yahs out -Rolling Stones
Live at Leeds-The Who
Live Bullet- Bob Seger

🧵 1/Guitar stuff-interesting discovery. As some know, I advocate outboard tube preamps to get harmonically rich overdrive through amps, at low vol. Works well. But found something with BrownBox Voltage regulator. BB has added tone to the Quad Reverb amp running at designed 117V
1:00AM guitar practice but low enough that the family doesn't complain or the cops aren't knocking on the door. Which is why I like these tube preamps. Get the overdrive & tone I want without rattling the windows or the household giving me the stink eye. Win Win
🧵Guitar stuff-external tube overdrives
1/One piece of gear I've dragged around for decades is a 70s MTI-Tubes external tube overdrive "pedal". Allows use 2 12ax7 preamp tubes to create tone control & tube overdrive harmonics of onboard preamp section, without high main amp vol
3/Then hit on the idea, "Hey! Why not use an A/B/Y pedal to switch between or run both channels?" Then remembered I have the MXR graphic EQ that allows 2 outputs from one guitar input. So rigged up going into both channels of the Frenzel into *loud* Sunn amp at low vol.

🧵Guitar Stuff- It Lives!
1/As some may remember, had my '68 Sunn Sceptre Amp in the shop for an overhaul. Well its out and it sounds like when I bought it in 1979-80.
4/I played it with Gretsch Corvette & sounded great. When I went to pick up, brought that guitar to make sure it sounded as it did. (40 yr memory). After fiddling around, turned the bass & treble to 10, presence to 0 & there it was. I was back above Verb's Bar in the apartment.

I for one welcome a nuclear-armed @uniofeastanglia
🧵Guitar stuff-Excess wall voltage.
1/So my BrownBox voltage limiter arrived today. As some may remember, recommended by amp tech to use with Sunn amp under repair. Was unaware of wall voltage's ability to effect sound and stability.

1/Guitar stuff-Frenzel Tube preamp-
Was out of town when it arrived & just got to play with it a little. As mentioned, has two tone stacks. Fenderish & Marshallish. Going into the Blues Jr (modified), it sounds good. F input is warm/smooth. M is more jangly, which I like.
