Hey @JohnNicholRAF. Loved your talk at WHWF6 and the Blitz book. Thought you might be interested in this book from Tom Wood. Based on police records, it paints a fascinating picture of the first bombing raid in WW2 through to 42.

In December 2026, four serving members of The Queen’s Gurkha Engineers (QGE) will row unsupported across the Atlantic in the World’s Toughest Row. Racing as The Salty Sappers, the team will raise funds and awareness for the Royal Engineers Association and the Gurkha Welfare Trust and become the first Nepali citizens ever to row an ocean.
The 3,000‑mile race runs from La Gomera, Canary Islands, to Antigua, with crews rowing non‑stop for around 40 days on a relentless 2‑hours-on, 2‑hours-off routine. The team will face extreme weather, high seas, exhaustion and the full force of the Atlantic. You can donate to support the Gurkha Welfare Trust, one of the team's selected charities here: justgiving.com/page/gurkhasa…

As the scale of the tragedy in Nepal becomes apparent today, all of the Gurkha family stand united in support of the people affected. We salute the work of our brothers and sisters in the Nepal Army and emergency services as they deal with the aftermath of the catastrophic river flood. Our Gurkha family is working together to do what it can. British Gurkhas Nepal and the Gurkha Welfare Trust are working hard to ensure our people are safe and that we can help and support the Nepalese authorities in any way we can. Many lives and livelihoods have been lost, and the path to recovery for Nepal, yet again, will take time and considerable effort. Our hearts go out to those who have lost family and friends. We are with you.
Colonel Commandant Brigade of Gurkhas.

Another great talk at Edin Book Fest. This time Angharad Hampshire (The Mare) and @hoyer_kat (Weimar) talking about what ordinary people did in Germany in WW2, and why. No matter how uncomfortable, the truth is it is in all of use to behave like this.
That was an incredible show this evening India Alba. Joyous music fusing Indian and Scottish music imaginatively, tempered by some extraordinary history of the Scottish-Indian history provided by William Dalrymple. Some good, a lot not so much.
Fascinating to hear how much the loot from India benefitted Scotland’s hospitals and provided most of Scotland’s wealth for decades. @EmpirePodUK @DalrympleWill @tweeter_anita

WEIMAR is on an outrageous Kindle Deal at the moment. Yours for £1.99! Remember that when you get to the bit when, just over a century ago, people paid 2 million marks for an egg...🤯

Brilliant show tonight by @DalrympleWill in @ARedinburgh on The Relentless Rise of the East India Company. So many brilliant anecdotes and history that challenged everything we were taught in school. Do go see his tour if you can and be better educated.
Great talk by @hoyer_kat about her Weimar book @ChalkeFestival. 2nd time to hear her speak about it, but still loads of new stories. Longest queue for book signing I have seen all week at #chalke2026
What a great start to my first @ChalkeFestival. @James1940 and @Scaramucci, Colin Bell and @TomTugendhat and @gene82226. The weather tried hard to spoil it, but luckily skin is waterproof!
Hello @LidlGB. I bought packet of tomatoes yesterday evening in your Dalkeith shop. It was fine then but now gone off. What do I do? Have had to throw the whole pack out since mould on all of them.
