Folks currently or recently on the job market - what were your go to places to find ads for faculty positions? We are looking to hire some amazing new colleagues and I want to make sure the ads are widely seen. We usually post in Cell, SACNAS and Chronicle of Higher Ed

Wow! A new take on an old problem - the regular spacing of ommatidia in the developing Drosophila eye. Forces generated by existing ommatidia regulate cell flow thus determining the locations of ommatidia in the next row. (Mechanical rather than reaction-diffusion)
We just posted the results of a wonderful collaboration between Kevin Gallagher, R Carthew, and Madhav Mani. A mechanochemical wave does some pretty surprising things to pattern a traingular grid of neurons

I bet you woke up this morning assuming that regular patterns in natural systems patterned via reaction-diffusion processes. Well I have news for you! biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/… What a great collaboration this has been with @Madhav_science and @RichCarthewLab!

New study @RichCarthewLab reports that a mechanical wave, rather than a gene wave, patterns ommatidia position in the drosophila compound eyes by shaping cell flow from the morphogenetic furrow. Live imaging of imaginal eye discs (e-cadherin-GFP). dlvr.it/S3l7bL

Brilliant advice
When we join a lab or take a job, we tend to think about where we want to be when everything is going right. We should also think about where we want to be when everything is going wrong…because things will go wrong, and that’s when the support of your lab or job matters most.
