It’s a pretty safe assumption to say that the current popularity of Japanese anime/manga/games was caused, in part, by piracy! How do you think people from other countries primarily consume Japanese media? It’s certainly not through 100% legal channels.

If your own moral compass is dictated entirely by the laws of your country, despite the fact that every other country in the world has differing laws/cultures, then you need to educate yourself further. It annoys me when people equate “breaking the rules” with being a criminal.

As a lawyer, seeing the cyclical discourse around copyright infringement is incredibly disappointing. Law is inherently a social construct. What is legal/illegal now can easily change throughout human history (and could be shaped by bad actors!). Use some critical thinking.
