The Ribchester Helmet is a Roman bronze ceremonial helmet from the late 1st to early 2nd Century AD. Discovered in 1796 as part of the Ribchester Hoard in Lancashire, England, it is now displayed at the British Museum. Originally, the helmet featured a model of a sphinx, which has since been lost.
The helmet was not designed for battle protection but rather for showcasing elite horsemanship in events like hippika gymnasia, or cavalry sports.

Ribchester Helmet; a Roman helmet dating from 1st or 2nd century AD which was discovered by clogmaker's son in 1796 in Ribchester, England. It is believed to have been worn for elite cavalry sports events.
