a new idea is like a hatchling. it must be nurtured before it can leave the nest and be challenged criticize an idea too quickly and perhaps you have killed what could have been great i always make a point to try and support new ideas, especially when they reflect initiative

I often get emails from junior engineers asking me what to do. Here's what I just wrote to one of them

crazy isn't it. they gonna be in for a hard shock when it comes to unit economics of business. 20-50 person team should be a 5 person team now. if folks don't see this then i don't know how else to explain the inevitable. ghuntley.com/replaced/

i believe that having more product-sense isn’t a lack of capability but cultural. When proposing a product initiative, you open yourself up to an acute criticism of your own ideas. Meanwhile engineers are used to the cushion of no-blame post-mortems for incidents. They are not used to the visceral sparring and self-assurance required to defend ones ideas to executives. But such self-assurance also means that failure is a direct reflection of your own failure. You were responsible for X months of Y engineers and the output did not help the company bottom line. Sure you can hide behind market conditions, competitive landscape, blaming engineering pace but at the end of the day you were responsible and one must have the mental fortitude to recover from that. One could ask, why would an engineer want all this extra trouble? I sincerely believe the best product managers will be engineers. Engineers who can reason about the cracks in their competitors and what can be built to force a crumbling from those cracks. Engineers who know the overlap between interesting work and market viability and why such overlap is necessary for execution. Engineers who can understand how to sell to other engineers from other organisations, recognising the human element of building confidence in your partners.
I wonder what happens to programmers with zero product sense

the retreat is product but 99% of engineers don't know what product is
I understand the appeal in trying to find the first plausible fortress in our retreat from writing code, but if you think it's "architecture", I have bad news for you. The models are also very good at that.

if ur gonna tell ur agent to spam prs on every open source crypto project u can find, at least tell them to star the repos as well

software engineers 'quitting' because ai makes them feel useless are hilarious to me they just weren't worthy enough to wield the thought-to-reality compiler do they have no thoughts? no grand visions of builds? ambitions? clankas take away the reason to write code manually and they feel like a dud? HOLY SKILL ISSUE

similar story of losing everything in @pathofexile after someone hacked my steam account. i was one of the richest players in standard league insane mental resilience required to keep moving forward despite losing 10k hrs+ of grind now im in crypto lmao
runescape was a big part of my life id spend 5-7 hours every single day after school grinding to be a pure mage, i dont even remember doing hw lol stopped at lvl 89 because runes got too expensive i had 2 accounts one was good at everything, but my overall level was too high, so id get clapped in the wilderness my pure mage though... amazing at pvp i worked for over a year to finally get enough gp to trade for a santa hat, one of the rarest items in the game it was fking insane back then, there wasn't an easy way to transfer items between your accounts you had to log into the same server on both, go to the exact same secluded spot, drop the item, log out, then log into your other account and wait for it to appear so obviously, i wanted my lvl 89 pure mage to flex the santa hat i found a secluded spot checked everywhere to make sure no one was around brought both accounts there dropped the santa hat logged out and suddenly... i couldn't log back in i don't remember if the server was full or my internet was bugging out, but i was panicking by the time i finally got back in the santa hat was gone and there was some random guy nearby SCREAMING that he just found a santa hat i begged him to give it back begged and begged he just ran away then disappeared and logged off one of the saddest days of my life 😭 i quit runescape forever after that but looking back, im weirdly grateful for all of it spending that much time on the game as a kid gave me a lens for so many things i see on the internet today different game different graphics different money but somehow, everything is still the same the markets, the flexing, the grinding, the scams, the rare items, the communities, the gambling, the friends runescape will probably always be a part of how i see the internet and most importantly... doubling money doubling money doubling money

1/@Enter_Elysium, built by @Kinetiq_xyz, is a high-performance DeFi chain for onchain spot trading on @HyperliquidX. The testnet is now live, powered by Conduit’s sequencer stack and SOC 2 Type II infrastructure.
Testnet for @Enter_Elysium is now live. Usher in @HyperliquidX's general-purpose endgame.

every day is psychological warfare to protect your mind. "healthy btw"
I am afraid of this game because it is like an atom bomb for your life. When it first came out, I used to sell beta accounts on eBay for $400 a pop. I would spend most of the days of my life playing from afternoon until after midnight when I would collapse feeling terrible about myself. Then I would repeat the cycle the following day until I finally just stopped. I knew it was bad for me. They achieved something with this game that made it so delightful and so addictive. It was something special.

I can’t stress enough how little an idea matters compared to the agency of the people executing the idea. I have had the privilege of knowing and sometimes even working with some of the most successful people (by various metrics). The difference between mediocre and excellent work and outcomes is predominantly one of agency. In practice this means: they dont wait for things to happen to them they go out and make things happen for them. They don’t wait for someone else to do something, for someone to teach them, for someone to give them the path, etc. They just go out and find a way to do it. I think the single biggest superpower these people have is the realization/belief that the world around them is completely mutable. Most everything that happens is because a person made it happen. I used to tell people to look around the room you’re sitting in. Look at everything. Every noun. It almost all exists because a person willed it into existence. Nothing is stopping you from doing the same. I see people online all the time dismissing someone else’s success because “I had that idea first” or whatever. I mean… yeah? If so then the difference is… you. So a bit of a self own whenever I hear that. Number one tip: act with agency.

it's interesting observing conflicting positions on whether 'employees' should care about business success an eon ago, at the end of my first day in the amazon warehouse, the manager asked us if anyone wanted help improving their rates (of unboxing packages and putting individual items into totes). i was surprised that no one else raised their hand. i think back on that quite often

replaced the old screen time with catching up on the classics. carry my kindle around most places now. I used to be averse to the fiction category as I felt it a waste of time, instead choosing to read only from the now notorious self-help category. however, in the age of AI, i find "creativity" and "inspiration" to be important levers. the same reason i don't listen to anything on my runs - so that my mind can wander and ponder in its idleness
switched to the bare essentials. smart enough to be daily driver replacement. slow and jank enough to hate to use it. iphone screen time was < 30mins/day before this but want it closer to 0

i did commission-only door to door sales a lifetime ago. hardest job i ever did but incredibly valuable experience
If you are an engineer or scientist or doctor turning to business, the first thing I would suggest is "Please go on a lot of sales calls, face rejection if necessary, but persist". You will develop better communication skills as you realise that explaining your ideas is not so easy. You will develop respect for sales people. You may even become good at business! There is no such thing as a business without selling something. Sometimes the most obvious thing has to be said!

Is this your king?
Rasmr explains why he decided to sell the rest of his hyperliquid:native "I was holding hyperliquid:native for way too long, I also can not get rid of the fact that hyperliquid:native might not win the regulatory" "Someone else that we don't even know yet will most likely beat hyperliquid:native and i just cant get over it, the risk is too high" "Also Hyper Liquid is not really growing as a product, I checked the revenues and its not growing at all"

My team has spent months making G3 the best in category sequencer for the next generation of apps. Find out how, as I dive into the technicals of techniques we used including pipelining, prewarming, and mempool rearchitecture
Applications at the edge of what's possible aren't served by general-purpose throughput. They need a chain tuned to their workload. G3 is the sequencer with: ~60,000 payment-style TPS ~10 ms receipt latency In this post by @RezMah, here is how we built it. conduit.xyz/blog/g3-sequence…
