There’s something special about a great burger van

A light-hearted, completely apolitical article I wrote about restaurants has been flooded with comments about migration. It’s a problem, I very much agree, but surely it’s healthy to turn our immigration brains off for a few minutes a day?

I’ve eaten at 13 zero or one-star hygiene rated restaurants this year. Most have been a pleasure: family-run places, often owned by recent immigrants, whose warmth puts sneering hipster joints and QR-code chains to shame. spectator.com/article/dirty-…

No dress codes, no queues, and the only idiot waving a phone about will be me. I’ve written for @spectator on why you should ignore the council and give your local zero-rated eatery a go. spectator.com/article/dirty-…

I do love getting FOIs back with OpenAI as the doc's author. At least one public sector worker won’t be demanding a four-day week.

New: millions of pounds are being spent giving working age people free council tax in some of the capital’s most exclusive areas — including Belgravia, Mayfair and Knightsbridge — whilst the council faces £160m of savings. thecritic.co.uk/upon-westmin…

Do we know how many children receiving benefits for ADHD have tried medication? It may be a cliché, but it has changed my life for the better in so many ways. It wouldn't be unreasonable to expect children, or indeed adults, to try it before claiming benefits for ADHD.

Thought I’d treat myself to some bacon from Clun Valley Foods. Clun’s a picturesque Shropshire town and the label reads “fresh from the country”. The bacon’s bloody Dutch. There should be laws against this kind of deceit.

This is a completely ridiculous situation, and even if you think it's fair you need to give up on this one. It's PR equivalent of reaching for a baseball at the same time as a nine-year-old and then stubbornly insisting that you touched it first.

Astonished Greta is now 23 - she still looks and sounds 12
Climate and social justice activist Greta Thunberg joined students at a high school in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, as France faced a new day of nationwide marches and strikes on top of the blockades at schools.

I hate it when they’re so sound
The idea of localism had excited me. I hadn’t realised it would mean swapping Westminster for Brussels.

FYI, the IMF expects "Brexit Britain" to be the fastest or joint fastest growing major (G7) economy in Europe in both 2026 and 2027, as she was in 2025, but still well behind the US 👇 (And some people would have us align even more closely with the EU... 🤷‍♂️)

Rural GP surgeries could close thanks to the government’s health reforms. A metropolitan Labour Party, egged on by by a metropolitan civil service, is sticking two fingers up to rural Britain again. Well, I never.
