POV: The exit of Bishops and Dioceses from X has been surprisingly good for Anglican Twitter… less grandiose point scoring in front of a hoped for purple audience, more information sharing. Some interesting people left on here.

Oh Uganda, 🇺🇬 may God uphold thee!
Over these two days of presidential elections, the internet has been shut down. Lord God we pray for peace and safety for our families, friends and the entire nation. Amen.
Been enjoying writing an advent book this year musing on the book of Revelation... onto Chapter 15 today - today's post is inspired by @synod
Don't post on here much anymore but so ashamed and appalled by the shocking, deadly abuse in Africa that is described so vividly in Episode 2 of #SeeNoEvil #Channel4 that could have been stopped after the also horrible, horrible abuse described in Episode 1. Horrific colonialism
rarely on here anymore, but catching up on the news in #gaza after being away, and horrified at how horrific it all is and amazed how normalised and ignored it all is. Retweets below commenting on destruction of Anglican hospital & from GB council of Jews and Rest is Politics

Anglican provinces have shared messages of solidarity and peace in the wake of the air strike on al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City.
Responding to the messages of support, Suhaila Tarazi - Director of al-Ahli Hospital said:
"Thank you for your heartfelt messages and unwavering support during this challenging time... Despite the destruction, our dedicated team is working tirelessly to restore essential services and continue providing care to the community. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, al-Ahli remains a vital lifeline for Gaza City and the northern region, and we are committed to maintaining our operations to the best of our abilities. Your solidarity, prayers, heartfelt thoughts, and kind words are a source of strength for all of us here. We deeply appreciate your concern and support."
Those sharing messages of support include The Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East; the Archbishop of York in the Church of England and the Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church.

You can both SUPPORT Israel...
and totally CONDEMN Netanyahu's appalling handling of the Gaza War.
He demonstrates tactics without strategy.
Utility of superior force but without a plan for stability.
Now 2m Palestinians are suffering -too weak to take on HAMAS.

There should be a widespread conversation about why this doesn't apparently merit any mainstream media coverage.
Please pray – 70 people have been found beheaded in a church in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“We further call on the international Christian community to remain in prayer for Christians and vulnerable communities in eastern DRC,” says a contact.opendoorsuk.org/news/latest-…

Bishop Bev Mason has waited 510 days to even begin to see the possibility of her complaint of sexual harassment being investigated. If it wasn't for the media and others bringing all of this into the light, she would still be waiting.
Stephen Cottrell is the Archbishop of York and ultimately responsible for this. At any point in the last 510 days, he could have launched a proper inquiry.
He chose not to. On every single one of those 510 days he chose not to have a proper inquiry.
This whole affair brings shame upon the @churchofengland.
Cottrell should resign right now, and so should any Bishop who has suggested that the process so far has been appropriate or proper.

What gets me is that *he knew*. He knew last year that the story about the Bishop of Liverpool would definitely come out. He knew for sure. And he still presented himself as the one through whom reform for the Church of England could come about.
#ArchbishopDoes the CoE need a West Wing moment? Wrote this a couple of weeks ago... is it time for a Supremes Episode approach & appoint a new #Archbishop of Canterbury and York at the same time... yournameislikehoney.com/2024…

I'm not often on X these days, but always delighted to get a mention from @talkChristianly when I pop on... and he's right that if you want to critique @churchofengland vision and strategy you really want to be pointing to a dependency on the Spirit of Holiness. #comeholyspirit

Thanks, I agree (and my longing is about how this then permeates the wider church!). Am grateful to @RevdRich for mentioning the Awaken podcast during this conversation - I've been listening since and have been enjoying it (largely!)

POV: Would vastly improve pastoral care in the church of England if no sitting diocesan bishop were in the House of Lords, but no doubt a few worthy bishops might continue to be appointed when they retire and have time to properly invest in parliament. #focus #knowyourwhy
Bishops in the House of Lords are "as much as an anomaly as hereditary peers" and should "join them at the exit", says Lord Warner. Quite right. No religion or its leaders should have a privileged role in the legislature.
