An unimaginable nightmare for these families and this community. Devastating and horrifying.

Our statement on President Trump's reversal of the planned livestream execution of the Fort Hood shooter.
"We welcome President Trump’s decision not to livestream the planned execution of Nidal Hasan. His decision follows widespread condemnation of the public spectacle.
“But this reversal does not resolve the deeper questions around capital punishment. It wastes taxpayer dollars, fails the families of victims, and does not improve public safety.
"The controversy should prompt conservatives to look beyond the method of execution and ask a more fundamental question: Is the death penalty a power the government should have at all?”

Lots of folks in the pro-life movement browbeat and shamed people for not supporting Trump, and now we have more abortions, the generic abortion pill, a completely watered-down GOP plank on abortion, and public executions. Absolutely pathetic and very, very sad.

The death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person. The common good can be safeguarded and the requirements of justice can be met without recourse to capital punishment: effective systems of detention have been developed that protect citizens while at the same time do not completely deprive those who are guilty of the possibility of redemption. #NoDeathPenalty
We’ve developed an unhealthy relationship with the death penalty.
My latest essay, written during my fellowship with @CCPublicLife, explores why. Read here: readymag.website/p31600615/
There is nothing pro-life about advocating for the public witnessing of an execution.
We’re not designed to witness such activity. This will have negative effects on our emotional, physical and spiritual psyche.
We must not continue being numb to the loss of life.

Jesus Christ was the most perfect and innocent human being that ever walked the grounds of the Earth. That’s profound within itself. If you support the death penalty, fine. But inserting Christ is a false equivalency and is just flat out grotesque.
Christ Himself accepted the death penalty
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
While Jesus submitted to his crucifixion, the Gospels depict the process as unjust and interpret his acceptance as sacrificial, not as an endorsement of Capitol Punishment.

Thank you, Lila. Opposing the death penalty is consistent with pro-life principles.
You can be a conservative and oppose the death penalty in modern America.
If conservatism includes skepticism of bloated, fallible, and sometimes corrupt government power, there is a strong conservative case for refusing to give the state its most ultimate and irreversible power: executing a human life.

Tennessee has become a national embarrassment and looks so stupid right now.
Bill Lee, who ran on criminal justice reform, has been an abject failure on this front and he’s a coward. Termed out and still too weak to stand up to knuckle draggers and stop this ordeal.
Smarter states stopped doing this dumb security theater decades ago for good reason, which is why republicans helped me overturn the death penalty in three states pre-2020.

.@CCATDP Executive Director @RevDMinor raises an important question: If an execution cannot be carried out without secrecy, uncertainty, or serious problems, what does that say about entrusting the state with that power? #ChristaPike
