Loneliness spreads like a virus.
In this network map of an entire town, each dot represents someone who is either socially connected (yellow) or lonely (green/blue).
Researchers found that loneliness isn’t just personal, but spreads like a disease.
If one person became lonely, their friends were 52% more likely to feel lonely too.
Your emotions don’t exist in isolation. They’re part of a social ecosystem.
We’ve all heard of the Oreo vs $10,000 debate.
A kid is given the choice between two Oreos of 10K, and chooses the 10K. Kids can’t control their short-term gratification.
But what about when a kid’s friend asks for half their Oreo? Most kids will willingly share without much hesitation.
A child’s understanding of the value of friendship is innate, hence the willingness to share.

“Suicide decreases with social integration - someone’s risk of committing suicide declines to the extent they are enmeshed in social ties to individuals & institutions. Bonds of family, friendship & community exert a protective effect against self-destruction.” ifstudies.org/blog/the-power…
Interestingly enough, people like you more when you compliment them- even if they know your compliment is insincere or for an ulterior motive.
91% of people are aware loneliness harms their mental health.
But only 32% know it harms their physical health too.

The teens self-reported their happiness levels, and the results could be attributed to complete randomness.

Social media isn't necessarily bad for everyone.
Only some teens are negatively affected by social media use. Some actually benefit from using social media.
Is there a world's happiest song? Some data says yes!
