Texas Republicans have given us a perfect example of what happens when you embrace the concept of "no enemies to the right" (NETTR). Which by the way, is something that I've been talking about for a while now! Paxton and French are two objectively disgusting humans. One is arguably the most corrupt attorney general to ever exist, the other is a racist troll. And despite the undoubtedly disqualifying character of both men, some people who call themselves conservatives will tell you that both candidates must win because the alternative is unacceptable. If you don't want to vote for a Democrat, fine. But what about writing in a candidate, or just not voting at all? Why is this never seen as an acceptable option? Voting is a signal. When you vote, it's a message that says "I deem this candidate fit for office." You can try to deny all you want and say it's actually about the lesser of two evils, blah blah blah—No. You could have easily abstained from voting, and sent a message that the options you were given were unacceptable. I have zero respect for people who operate this way, who vote as if every election—yes even the Texas Railroad Commission—is somehow the most important election ever. And it's no surprise that the majority of people who embrace this NETTR bullshit are also incredibly shitty people themselves. If you are what you eat, I'd also say, you are what you're willing to vote for.
