The rule is that: If you keep making good decisions over time, you give yourself a better chance of getting the results you're working towards.

You can wait for your setup, follow your rules, manage your risk, and still watch the trade hit your stop-loss. But this is never a licence for you to go rogue.

You can know your rules, understand your strategy and still find yourself making the same mistakes you've been trying to avoid. Backtesting helps you figure this out a lot.

We want good decisions to always produce good results. But that's not how probability works. I'm learning to judge my trades by the decisions I made, not just by how they ended.

I started the week with one trade that played out exactly as I planned I took it on two different accounts. It hit TP on both and helped me successfully pass one of my evaluation accounts. That was definitely a good feeling. But also, I also missed another trade later on. I'm a bit pained but I'm letting it go. I can't catch every move and that is fine. Overall, I'm grateful for this week. Next week looks promising.

I still remember my first prop firm payout. It wasn't the biggest amount of money I'd ever seen. But it meant everything. For the first time, trading prop firm stopped feeling like an idea. It became real. That one withdrawal gave me something. That's proof. Proof that it could be done. That I can actually pass phase one, two, and withdraw. But before then, trading prop firms made me question if I was wasting my time. After that first payout, the question changed. It was no longer a question of, "Can I do this?" It became, "How do I do this consistently?" That shift changed everything. Over the next six months, I went on to make over 10 withdrawals. This isn't because I suddenly found a new strategy. Neither is it because the market became easier. I simply stopped trading to prove something. I started trading to repeat the process that got me the first payout. Looking back, the first withdrawal wasn't valuable because of the money. It was valuable because it changed what I believed was possible. After all, all I needed is one piece of evidence. After that, consistency became a lot more easier to achieve.

Don't give up because it's taking longer than you expected. Don't quit because you've made mistakes. Learn. Adjust. Keep going. You can become profitable.

One thing I love about backtesting is what it does to your mind when you do it properly. Especially when you're testing one candle at a time without revealing what comes next. You don't know if your setup will win or lose. You just have to read the chart, follow your rules, and make a decision. Just like live trading. You get to practise waiting, taking losses, sitting through uncertainty, and not forcing trades because you want to make money. And the more you do it, the more familiar these situations become. You're not just testing your strategy. You're training yourself to trust your rules even when you don't know how things will end. Backtesting is one of the most useful things a trader can do.
