In 2017 we hoped that the passage of the recess mandate would inspire others to speak up and take a stand for their kids. Today, we hope the message received is that it’s important to STAY engaged and speak up for kids even if yours are long past their recess days. #recessmatters

Recess lived to see another day in Florida elementary schools, while state senators forged ahead with plans to untie third grade retention and high school graduation from test results. The bills next head to the full @FLSenate. tampabay.com/news/education/…

While the @FLSenate ponders “deregulating public schools” by eliminating recess mandates (but not touching the Accountability/School Grade system), let’s remember why the recess mandate was fought for in the first place. #recessmoms #SB7004 @csime90 accountabaloney.com/index.ph…

Remember, we are not teaching mini adults but children. Let them learn and play like children. Add an extra recess today and have a Fantastic Friday!

'@csime90 We've already been "closer to the problem." We used our voices in our own communities, and had the conversations with our superintendents and school boards. For three years, they told us to pound sand. That's why we came to Tallahassee and got a mandate.

'@csime90 Recess isn't about making kids tired. There is legitimate peer-reviewed research that shows "20 consecutive minutes" resets the learning and memory areas of the brain - which leads to improved attention, increased memory span and better retention in the classroom.

'@csime90 It's where kids learn important skills like leadership, negotiation and conflict resolution. Without "20 consecutive minutes daily", several short "brain breaks" and some quick dance videos will return as the norm. Please leave Florida's recess mandate alone.
