We thank Rep. Luttrell for his leadership on this important topic and will continue to support and collaborate with him and other Members of Congress, including Rep. Derek Tran (CA-45), to preserve our Army ECABs AND maintain the RC & Total Force MEDEVAC capabilities.
The Army's decision to deactivate the ECABs, including the 158th Aviation Regiment in Conroe, Texas, is an unacceptable gamble with our nation's readiness and puts the future of hundreds of soldiers and civilians in doubt. This decision cuts critical air assault, medical evacuation (MEDEVAC), and emergency response capabilities before a replacement is ready. Our troops deserve better, and the communities that rely on these critical capabilities deserve better. Congress is going to press forward to correct this mistake, restore these essential capabilities, and ensure our soldiers, their families, and our communities have the support and protection they deserve.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, over the next several weeks ROA will be spotlighting Hispanic American Reservists who made an impact as Citizen Warriors. Most know Roberto Clemente as a baseball legend and humanitarian, but Clemente was also a member of the Marine Corps Reserve. Clemente enlisted in the USMCR as an infantryman in 1958. He spent six years in the USMCR, training and serving during his Pittsburgh Pirates offseasons. He served six months on active duty at Parris Island and Camp LeJeune while he completed his basic and infantry training. Clemente was inducted into the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973 and the Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. He was also posthumously awarded a Congressional Gold Medal in 1973 and a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2003. #ReserveStories

We had a fantastic day yesterday hosting Marine Corps Reserve, Air Force Reserve, and U.S. Public Health Service Ready Reserve Corps representatives for our Joint Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill. Thank you to everyone who made this day possible, including Rep. Jack Bergman (MI-01), Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (IA-01), the dozens of congressional staff members who met with our teams, the Marine Corps Reserve Association, and all of our partners representing the USPHS Ready Reserve Corps and the Air Force Reserve. #ROAAdvocacy

Antiquated pay and personnel systems. Working without pay or long delays in receiving Reserve pay. Glaring gaps in travel benefits (including having to pay for travel out of your own pocket), retirement pay, medical care, and insurance. These are just some of the maddening and frustrating things that Steve and Matt talked about on this #RCForums episode along with how ROA is fighting to change or address all of these issues for the Reserve Component. Make sure you listen to the full episode at roa.org/rcforums. #ReserveConnect

Our next #ArmyTenMiler #TeamROA member is SGM Steve Minyard, USA (Ret.), our amazing Director of Programs here at ROA. According to Steve, "the American Revolution started with a Citizen-Soldier NCO getting his troops ready to fight; ten miles in DC is the least we can do to honor that service!" Please visit 👟 onecau.se/_kyxtu1 to support Steve's fundraiser to champion ROA's programs that will benefit current and former members of the Reserve Components and their families.

September 11, 2001, started out as a beautiful day. It was a normal commute, a typical morning in Washington, D.C., New York City, and everywhere else in America. Then the unimaginable happened. That beautiful day turned dark. And our world changed. But from that darkness came light. A generation of new heroes was born - the many, many heroes who emerged from the events of that day, and the countless warriors who answered the call when their nation needed them most in the aftermath. Today, 25 years later, we remember and honor all those who were lost due to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. We will never forget you. And we are forever grateful for all who stood up to protect and serve our country in the days and years after the attacks. We can never say thank you enough.

This morning, ROA's CEO, Maj. Gen. John Hashem, USA (Ret.), and ROA life member Susan Lukas had the solemn honor of laying a wreath at the Pentagon to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

In this month's Reserve Voice Online, Congressman Suhas Subramanyam (VA-10), lead sponsor of the Susan E. Lukas 9/11 Servicemember Fairness Act (H.R. 5339), explains why Congress must close a gap in benefits for servicemembers exposed to toxic conditions at the Pentagon following 9/11—and why caring for those who answered the call is a matter of duty: 🔗 roa.org/closing-the-benefits….
