Some days in this job are particularly awe-inspiring — like today, when I joined my colleagues at Independence Hall in Philadelphia to celebrate that on this day 250 years ago our predecessors in the Continental Congress voted that our colonies were free and independent states. Two days later, they would adopt a declaration that would proclaim certain self evident truths. We still have a long way to go before our nation fully realizes the values and rights articulated in the Declaration of Independence — that all of us are created equal. I'm grateful for the opportunity to do my small part in that work each day that I serve Delaware in Congress.

Instead of banning news outlets that report on his ineffective and corrupt presidency, perhaps Donald Trump should focus on being more effective, less corrupt, and maybe even following the First Amendment.

Diesel prices in Delaware just reached the highest recorded average in history--fire Trump!

This year's rates for the Delaware Health Insurance Marketplace have increased, on average, by double digit percentages, rate hikes that will make coverage much harder to access and afford. President Trump and Congressional Republicans chose to push through their Big Ugly Bill and pass the single greatest evisceration of the American healthcare system in history and allow the ACA Enhanced Premium Tax Credits to expire — putting healthcare coverage further out of reach, less affordable, and inaccessible for my neighbors. In Congress, I am fighting to restore these critical tax credits, reverse the dangerous cuts to healthcare, and ensure my neighbors can access quality healthcare.

This is a clear rebuke of this president's reckless handling of the economy, which has driven up inflation and done nothing to address the affordability crisis facing working families in Delaware and everywhere.

I was honored to join colleagues, partners, and labor leaders from across local, state, and federal leadership to celebrate the official groundbreaking of the Delaware Container Terminal at the Port of Wilmington. The funding for this exciting next chapter — partly secured by our Congressional Delegation, past and present — represents an investment in economic opportunity for our neighbors, stronger supply chains, and the capacity of Delaware to continue leading in international commerce. Both in this project and others, I will keep working to ensure access to good-paying, union jobs and to the protection of surrounding communities.

Donald Trump started a war that has cost taxpayers more than $40 billion while my neighbors in Delaware struggle to afford everything from groceries and gas to health care and housing. Today, for the sixth time, the House is voting on a War Powers Resolution to rein in the president’s illegal actions — actions that have cost lives & driven up prices.

During National Hispanic Heritage Month, we honor the Hispanic communities in Delaware and around the country. Even in the face of unprecedented adversity and attacks, Hispanic Americans' powerful contributions and rich culture continue to shape our country for the better. This month, and every month, we celebrate the resilience, strength, and impactful role of Latino and Hispanic communities everywhere.

AI presents potentially the biggest change for humanity since human beings went from nomadic creatures to stationary, community-based societies.  Whether you think AI will be a fountain of youth or a doomsday technology or something in between, its power - both present and potential - is indisputable.  Its capacity to cure diseases or produce bioweapons, to protect against the most advanced cyberattacks or hack the most robust technological fortresses, to foster shared prosperity for the many or to amass unimaginable wealth for the few, are each different sides of the same coin: significant capacity that can lead to superhuman power.  No concentration of such power - whether it be in an individual, a company, a nation, or a technology - can be allowed to go unchecked or unrestrained. And it certainly cannot go unregulated.  Since I entered Congress, I’ve been calling on my colleagues to meet this moment and to marshal our collective power to regulate AI. It’s why, as a member of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I’m pushing for regulations domestically and, as a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, I’ve argued for an “arms control” approach to AI globally. We need human-centric laws that protect our economy, our finances, our privacy, our health, our democracy, and, yes, our existence. We need national and international action. We need it now.  For AI to have any good, we must protect against its harm. And the clock is ticking. As we’ve seen with other technologies, the longer we wait, the harder it becomes. We cannot feel too much urgency. We cannot be too imaginative. There is simply no realistic risk in today’s politics that we do too much. The risk is that we do too little – and that is a risk that is simply too great to bear. Whistleblowers are warning us. AI CEOs are requesting it. And the people are demanding it. Congress should not leave until we’ve fulfilled our responsibility to our constituents and to humanity. Future generations expect nothing less.

Today marks 25 years since the September 11th attacks, the single deadliest terrorist attack on American soil in our nation's history. As we reflect on the horror of that day two and half decades ago, I remain inspired by the heroes who risked everything, gave their lives, and summoned extraordinary courage to save lives in the face of — and in the wake of — tragedy.

We should be supporting all parents, not pitting families against one another. This is an insult to working families who, even with dual incomes, are barely scraping by and rely on what little they receive from these subsidies. Expanding access to these subsidies without increasing funding for them means more parents will be competing for the same dollars, leaving single & working parents in a worse spot. When our neighbors are healthy, all of us benefit. Today in Georgetown, we celebrated $4 million in new federal investment that our congressional delegation secured for the La Red Health Center and their Re-Entry Program.

On Labor Day, we honor the generations of working people and labor unions who have fought — and continued to fight — for rights we too often take for granted—safer workplaces, fair pay and benefits, and even the concept of a weekend. I’ll keep uplifting your voices and perspectives to expand workers' rights and unions and create more opportunities for our neighbors across the First State.

I was honored to join this year's 4th Annual Awards Celebration Honoring Black Women, where 125 women from across Delaware — including my friend and colleague Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester — were recognized for leadership and service in education, medicine, law, faith, and civic life. It was a joy to see and hear from a few of these exceptional recipients who are helping shape a Delaware where black women are are seen, valued, and celebrated.

I enjoyed celebrating the preservation of 89 acres of agricultural, forest, and marshland near Lewes alongside the Sussex County Land Trust and community partners. The preservation of spaces like Ard Na Gréine protects Delaware’s natural heritage, supports native and migratory wildlife, and honors the farmers who have cared for this land for generations. I’m grateful to everyone who helped make this preservation possible.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Vikki’s passing, and my heart is with her wife, Karen, and all those who loved Vikki and were touched by the beautiful, full life they built together. Vikki became my "campaign mom" when I was working for Jack Markell. She was one of the first people I saw embody what it means to be a state of neighbors: showing up for the people you love and the friends you have yet to meet.
