Bent’s Old Fort is an important part of our history, and we need to do what we can to revitalize it and ensure it remains a part of our future. Residents have until October 23rd to submit public comments on the four concepts being considered for the fort’s future. Saturday night, I attended the Civic Leaders Dinner in Boone. A good reminder of why 4-H matters. We watched these kids in action, from raising livestock to decorating cakes. Thank you to Jen Dionisio and 3 Sisters Farm, Dairy & Flowers, and everyone who makes 4-H, FFA, and the Pueblo County Fair possible, including our Fair Board, CSU Extension, county staff, the Colorado State Fair, and local farmers, ranchers, and businesses. Look around, Pueblo. These kids will be leading this community before we know it, and I’m proud of what I see. #TyHD47 #4H

CPW PUTS WOLVES AHEAD OF COLORADO’S LIVESTOCK PRODUCERS Today, CPW suspended the Chronic Depredation Directive—the process meant to address wolves that repeatedly kill livestock. What’s even more troubling is how it was done: no public notice, no Commission vote, no hearing, and no opportunity for ranchers to weigh in. Colorado’s livestock producers spent years working with CPW in good faith, investing in nonlethal deterrents with the understanding that when those measures failed, lethal removal remained an option. Now that commitment has been changed. Our ranchers didn’t ask for wolves to be put on the landscape, but they are being asked to bear the cost and consequences.

Started in Pueblo at the rally, then headed to Walsenburg for the Mountain Mining Days Parade, and wrapped it in La Junta watching my daughter play volleyball. Great day in Southeast Colorado with Senator Pelton touring Prowers Medical Center in Lamar and Wiesbrod Memorial County Hospital in Eads. Both facilities are making important investments to keep rural Coloradans healthy and ensure quality healthcare remains close to home. Rural hospitals are vital to our communities, and it’s great to see them growing and improving! #TyHD47

August 13, 2026 Trinidad, Colorado Regarding the Arrest of Gage Montoya “These allegations are sickening, vile, and deeply disturbing. My heart breaks for the victims, and I am praying for every child and family impacted by this case. I stand with the law enforcement officers and investigators working to protect children from predators and bring those responsible to justice. I am grateful for their dedication and the critical work they do to keep our communities safe.”
