Councilmember Nithya Raman's comment at a debate on ex-LAPD Chief Daryl Gates being the "gold standard" in terms of not working with ICE is "beyond offensive" to Black and Latino residents, Mayor Karen Bass told Spectrum News.
Raman has accused Bass of twisting her words.

Mayor Karen Bass said she and Councilmember Nithya Raman are "neck and neck" in the LA mayoral race.
Bass told Spectrum News a recent Berkeley IGS/LA Times poll showing Raman leading by 11 points "has not been backed up" by other polls.

I want to be clear: I would have preferred not to make this video. I am sharing it to explain my upcoming coverage of the race for California state controller, including my efforts to interview incumbent Malia Cohen (D-CA) and why my candidate interview coverage of this office will feature only her challenger, Herb Morgan (R-CA).
I would have preferred to produce a piece giving both candidates equal time. Those are journalistic values that guide me every day. After weeks of outreach and back-and-forth with Cohen’s team, a Zoom interview was scheduled, then abruptly canceled by her team. I was told she had no availability to reschedule before the election.
Her team said I could submit written questions for Cohen to answer in writing. I respectfully declined because I wanted voters to hear directly from her on camera, with the opportunity for follow-up questions.
I told her team multiple times I wanted to ensure voters heard her side, her priorities, and answer why she deserves a second term in office. I made every effort to make that happen.
Fairness is always my priority. My goal was to give both candidates the same opportunity to discuss their records, answer meaningful and tough questions, and speak directly to voters. I regret that I could not make that happen, but voters deserve transparency about the process.

A bill proposed by @SenAdamSchiff wants to provide P.O. boxes for individuals experiencing homelessness in an effort to give them a stable address - which is often a barrier to them getting a job and having access to support services.
We found one organization doing it successfully on a small scale - and they say the impact can be life changing.
Great to join @Renee_Eng in studio tonight to talk about it:

Dear friends, during some recent medical examinations, the doctors found a small, localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well-localized. The doctors believe that it is best to intervene, so, following their advice, I have decided to undergo surgery to remove it. The operation is already scheduled to take place in the coming days. I thank you for your spiritual closeness and entrust myself to your prayers.
Christa Pike, the only woman on Tennessee's death row, received two doses of a lethal drug in a Nashville execution chamber Wednesday night. But she didn't die. Now, she is alive in a hospital and receiving "lifesaving medical care," according to her attorney. The extent of Pike's injuries after the failed execution was unclear.
Although her survival was "unparalleled," as one expert said, it was the latest example of a botched execution attempt involving lethal injections in Tennessee and elsewhere around the United States. @SkylerHenry reports.
