A 1975 Mesa Boogie Mark I guitar amplifier with a stained wood enclosure and basketweave grille, owned and stage-played by Jerry Garcia, co-founder and lead guitarist of the Grateful Dead. Part of Jerry’s live rig from 1975–1976, the amp also appeared in a Mesa Boogie print ad alongside Jerry and Bobby, a copy of which is included here. After its tour life, the amp spent time in Jerry’s living room, always ready for the next jam, according to his daughter Trixie. Featuring more than 300 lots, "Treasures from the Golden Road" spans stage-played instruments, road-worn gear, backstage passes, handwritten setlists and lyrics, Jerry Garcia’s original artwork and rehearsal materials, iconic works by Alton Kelley, George Mead, Stanley Mouse, and Herb Greene, as well as correspondence, fan gifts, vintage t-shirts, and more. A dressing room plaque from Winterland Ballroom, gifted to Big Steve Parish by Bill Graham after the iconic venue closed in 1978. The Grateful Dead famously rang in the New Year with a marathon set, opening with “Sugar Magnolia” at midnight after The New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Blues Brothers, and ending with a lavish breakfast for fans at dawn—just as the event flyer promised. A 1939 Gibson Super 400 archtop in a beautifully aged natural finish, this remarkable instrument was owned and played by Jerry Garcia and comes directly from his daughter, Trixie Garcia. Beyond the Grateful Dead, Garcia used this very guitar with the Jerry Garcia Band, Old & In the Way, and in frequent collaborations with David Grisman, including sessions for Not for Kids Only and “Blue Yodel No. 9” from Been All Around This World, his final album session in 1995. Often photographed in his hands, it also appears in the video for “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” from Smoke. Featuring more than 300 lots, "Treasures from the Golden Road" spans stage-played instruments, road-worn gear, backstage passes, handwritten setlists and lyrics, Jerry Garcia’s original artwork and more.
