Manchester United fans mocking Ruben Amorim after losing 2–4 at home are exposing exactly why this club keeps going backwards. Nobody expects Amorim to go an entire season without losing a game. Football doesn’t work that way. Even the best managers lose matches. The real question is HOW you lose, WHAT your team looks like during those defeats, and whether there is a recognisable structure, identity and long-term direction behind the performances. What is your team’s style of play? How does it build from the back? How does it press? How does it react after conceding? What are the players’ body language, movements and understanding of their roles telling you? Even in a defeat, can you identify what the manager is trying to implement? These are the questions serious football supporters ask. You cannot implement a new system overnight. You need the right profiles, tactical discipline, repetition on the training ground and players who understand their responsibilities. That process takes time, and there will be setbacks along the way. The problem with some Manchester United fans is that they want immediate results without understanding the process required to achieve sustainable success. They mock a manager for losing a match but cannot explain what his team is trying to build, what went wrong tactically or whether the foundations of a system are beginning to take shape. And then we have Michael Carrick. 😂 Under Carrick, it sometimes feels like the selection strategy is simple: lose a game, change things; win a game, bring back the same players. Where is the clear tactical identity? Where is the consistent structure? Where is the evidence of a system being developed beyond picking players and hoping things work out? A team winning a match does not automatically mean it has a system. Just as a team losing a match does not automatically mean its manager has no idea what he is doing. This is where the difference between judging results and understanding football becomes obvious. Amorim should absolutely be criticised when his decisions deserve criticism. His tactics are not beyond question, and a 2–4 home defeat must be analysed honestly. But if your entire argument against him begins and ends with the scoreline, you are not analysing football. You are reacting emotionally to a result. Mock Amorim all you want. But if you cannot distinguish between a manager trying to implement a footballing identity and a team simply stumbling from one result to another, you are part of the same mentality that has kept Manchester United trapped in this cycle.
