At a Korean restaurant in Japan. The staff comes up to me. He's Chinese, speaks to me in Japanese...
He's explaining something to me but his point is not really getting across...
If I switch to Chinese would that be a flex or make him feel bad?
What do you think?

Helped a Korean couple that looked lost (ppl get lost at my subway entrance all the time cuz it's super confusing)
Pointed them in the right direction and they looked unconvinced so I offered to walk with them.
Good chance for some Kr practice.
I'm still ๐๏ธ๐ญ
It was fun tho!
Japanese joke I "told" today. I made myself laugh at least. ๐
6th grade boy:
"ใใใใใจใชใใใ?"
Me:
"ใใใซใคใกใใใใใซใใใใ ใ"
Did you get it? ๐

Today, a 4th grade kid tried to slide down the railing and yells "WEDGIE! Oh no, it's super wedged in there."
*Me and his teacher exchange looks like*
(Idk exactly what he said in Japanese, but at the same time I knew EXACTLY what he said ๐)
I was translating for my Jp school principal and a Chinese parent today, and one sentence had a word that I was planning to keep in Japanese, so I ended up saying the whole sentence in Japanese to the Chinese parent and the principal laughed and said "I just said that..." ๐ญ ๐ญ

"I'm too old to learn Korean."
Wrong.
You're too impatient.
Kids take 10,000+ hours to speak their first language.
You want fluency in 500.
Adjust expectations or adjust commitment.
Age isn't the enemy. Impatience is.
Had our city-wide ES teacher table tennis tournament today!
Literally haven't played since last year's (0 practice before) but ended up playing really well!
I'm kinda sick so I was kinda iffy about going, but it was a lot of fun ๐
I wish they'd bring back vball tho ๐ญ
My Japanese coworker told me why he wears short sleeves even in the freezing winter โ๏ธ
His answer was really wise and surprised me! (Hint: samurai)
There's a bit of backstory required tho, so read on below ๐
His backstory and answer:
So this teacher's job is basically just to work directly with difficult, usually violent boys.
And he is at our school to work with 1 in particular who has had many anger outbursts and incidents involving punching other kids, etc.
If you can't see their skin, it's less humanized, so it's easier to perform acts of violence.
So I show my arms so that, hopefully, it's harder for these boys to act out in violence and punch me.
There are days when the kid punches him like 100+ times, but sometimes 0.
And today we were just chatting a lot about education, culture, etc, when he decides to tell me why he always wears short sleeves.
He said there's a concept that started with the samurai that it's harder to bring yourself to cut your enemy's bare skin directly, psychologically.
LOL the bus driver just pulled a savage move.
One HS girl runs to catch the bus, the door is already closed, he opens it and says "Douzo"
She tries to stand in the doorway to allow her 2 friends time to catch up.
He says "step away from the door"
*Closes it, drives off* ๐
PSA: If you drop a sandwich, DO NOT KICK IT. Especially if there's shredded lettuce in it. It goes EVERYWHERE.
It might seem obvious, but some people might be tempted to kick falling sandwiches. Not me, but someone out there.
