I am in shock… Still cannot believe the message I got a little while ago from @wildfreelions…. I had heard of another altercation of the remaining 2 Northern Black Dam Males with the Birmingham Breakaway coalition in the Timbavati yesterday… I asked a friend in Thornybush who told me that one, while badly injured, would make it in his eyes… I had no idea this was just half the story… 💔😭 On October 3, Alpha had been killed by the Birmingham Breakaway Coalition who had lost 2 of their members previously in fights with the NBDMs. Now, 2 weeks later, another one - from what I have heard, it was Beta - was killed while the 3rd one got badly injured… I cannot believe that this is all happening! I am aware the Lions’ World is harsh, but together with so many other losses of lions I have cared about, it takes my breath away, leaves me lost for words… Simply grateful to have met these 3 stunning boys the first time with @mattyhollandwildlife in June 2023 while ruling the Avoca pride, and again this July with Lucan and Daniel from @shimungwelodge, while they were with the Monwana pride… #wildearth

A truly unforgettable morning with the fresh mother of the famous BlackRockPride and her 3 tiny cubs in the Mara. Just a few months earlier, the pride had gone through some major changes, as 3 new males, born into the Topi Pride by Topi girls Mdomo and Winter, Chungwa, brother Droopy, and their cousin late Mandevu had taken over the Black Rock Pride without a big fight! The boys that would become famous as the BRBs had left and so had their fathers… #wildearth
