I am Wesley's mother. I have waited 6.5years for the legal proceedings to be finalised, and yesterday the court found his manager guilty of neglect which caused his death.

My sons employer convicted of causing his death handed down heaviest penalty in WA history - 320k. Although fine insignificant in value, very significant in setting precedent of 80% of Max. Under new WHS laws soon to be enacted this fine would convert to $2.8M. Win.

The Work Health and Safety Bill 2019 has passed with amendments. These amendments will now be forwarded to @AssemblyWA for their consideration.
#WHSBill passes in the WA Parliament incorporating #industrialmanslaughter laws. Meaning was just given back to a life that was treated as if it were meaningless.

I'm gutted by the death at Curtin.
Christmas Eve 2010, my cousin was killed in a mine site accident. Like my brother, he was a mechanic.
The Curtin death is so much like that of Mark Allen, killed at 23 when a ceiling collapsed.
We need strong safety laws & strong enforcement.
