We have a new paper investigating how mosquito nutrition affects malaria development.
Our findings suggest malaria parasites may actively adjust oocyst growth rate to best exploit nutritional resources.

Another day, another batch of mosquito gut dissections. Look at those beautiful malaria oocysts (P. chabaudi) and i'm not sure but is that melanization too?
🚨New paper alert 🚨From her time in our lab, the amazing @evolutiomary demonstrates that the calling behaviour of male Pacific field cricket is a circadian trait and therefore could be a target for natural selection imposed by a parasitoid fly. So cool!

Today in class we were all very lucky to capture a mosquito emerging from pupa form! So cool! youtube.com/watch?v=rdm5QIox… #ReeceLabOnTour
🚨 New paper alert 🚨 Here we (@CatherineEOke) test a non-destructive method to detect sporozoites from individual infected mosquitoes on sugar-feeding substrates. doi.org/10.1186/s13071-023-0…
We've had a really fun time teaching Japanese pupils Parasitology with @MalariaUnit. Two classes so far and both have been so much fun. #ReecelabOnTour
Waiting for the ferry to our new home for two weeks, Matsuyama! The Reece Lab is most definitely on tour! #Reecelabontour
Our lab now gets a well deserved rest for our brains. :) what a great meeting

And finally we finish up the day with a talk from Antony Dodd showing us how circadian rhythms are going to help us save the planet. #ItsAboutTime
Richard Gazzinelli talks about immune regulation of host energy metabolism and periodicity of malaria parasites #ItsAboutTime
Marina Bellet kicks off the last session by talking about rhythmic interactions between hosts and parasites. #ItsAboutTime
Yusuf Omosun explains how Chlamydia infection dynamics are shaped by the time of day of initial infection. #ItsAboutTime
