Kalani Sitake said something Monday that I keep rereading. It came out in a Deseret story this morning.
"I think there's a time when you can (give) praise, but these guys don't need to be praised as much right now as much as they need just to get to work."
He isn't saying the praise is wrong. He's saying there's a time for it and this isn't it. Same man, same briefing: "Happy to be 3-0, and just really proud of the guys."
So it isn't that he won't say it. It's that he's spending it carefully. I don't think I've heard a coach put it that way before

BYU already has a conference game in the bank. Utah hasn't played one yet.
Both teams are 3-0. Both moved up in Sunday's poll, second week running. And they're at completely different points in the same season — BYU opened Big 12 play against Arizona on Sept 12, Utah opens Saturday at Iowa State, and BYU is sitting this week out entirely.
Same state, same record, two different calendars. They don't line back up until November 7.
