On Tuesday, a federal judge again blocked the Trump administration from shutting CNN, MS NOW, and Politico out of the White House.
The decision puts an end to a “blatantly unconstitutional” ban, said @rcfp President Bruce D. Brown. Our full statement: bit.ly/3WqXd8P

Kelly ruled on due process grounds (again and unsurprising), but he also found Trump's ban violated the First Amendment because it is both retaliation and viewpoint discrimination.
Kelly granted this PI on all three claims brought by the news organizations. This ruling is a major win for MS NOW, CNN, and Politico.

An incredible fact about Roger Marshall's campaign: According to his most recent FEC reports, he doesn't have any paid staff.
His chief of staff says that's no longer the case, but the campaign refused to share details about anyone getting paid.
How are they accomplishing this feat? Read the story:

MS NOW, CNN and Politico are suing Trump and senior officials over White House ban
@falgallagher reports on lawsuit, which seeks an immediate block of the ban and restoration of press credentials and access to White House

Today’s action revoking access for journalists from CNN, POLITICO, and MSNOW violates the First Amendment. The implications extend beyond these organizations: a standard used to exclude one news outlet because of its coverage could be applied to any outlet in the future. The American people, through a free and independent press, must be able to scrutinize those elected to power, regardless of whether government officials view it favorably. That’s why courts have repeatedly held that once the White House provides access to journalists, it cannot deny that access arbitrarily or based on the content of their reporting. The WHCA calls on the administration to immediately restore our colleagues' access.

On Friday, President Trump said he is planning to ban CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House for reporting what he called “fake news.”
“A ban like this would be flatly unconstitutional,” said @rcfp President Bruce D. Brown. Our full statement: rcfp.org/statement-white-hou…

ALT A quote from RCFP President Bruce D. Brown: “A ban like this would be flatly unconstitutional. The First Amendment is clear that once the White House invites in some journalists, it can't ban others because it doesn't like their reporting. This is textbook viewpoint discrimination and will be quickly struck down by the courts if challenged.”
The president said it plainly in the Oval Office, describing his own planned action as a “ban on the free press.”
The Constitution protects the freedom of the press from government interference. That protection does not depend on whether the president likes a news organization’s coverage, agrees with its reporting, or approves of the questions its journalists ask.
This is about more than the rights of journalists. It is about the right of the American people to receive a full and independent account of the activities, policies and decisions of whoever occupies the nation’s highest office.
The WHCA stands in defense of our colleagues at CNN, MSNOW, and Politico who are being singled out for doing their jobs.

At a 9/11 remembrance event night a man told the audience his brother's remains were not identified until April of 2002.
Seven months. The room gasped. They heard neglect.
I was sitting in the back of that room, and I knew what those 7 months actually were. Because my job took me to a garbage dump on Staten Island that I believe is one of the most sacred pieces of ground in America.
For 10 months after the attacks, investigators in white personal protective equipment stood at conveyor belts on a hill called Fresh Kills and searched 1.5 million tons of the World Trade Center by hand, down to fragments a ¼ inch. An average of 30 human remains recovered every single day. Wedding bands. Police shields. Office ID cards. Names given back to families who had nothing else to bury.
The wait was terrible. But the wait was the search.
Almost nobody knows this story. I wrote down what I saw on that hill one day in my journal 25 years ago. Today I published that story.
