A 5* instant classic of British nature writing.
Windswept isn’t only enjoyable and enriching; it contains some of the most striking descriptions of nature I’ve ever read.
Horatio Clare, The Telegraph.
Windswept's old strainer post & sunset view to the Outer Hebrides.
It's big squall-and-rainbow kind of weather, oh yes! We are windswept and seared by light.
Autumn in Wester Ross, NW Highlands, Scotland.
Mighty mountain. Baosbheinn. Wizard. Sentinel. Shrouded. Cloud-capped. Holding fast to the light. Rain soaked moor at his feet.

📷. 2. This early evening as we returned home.

Hello can anyone help with the ID of this fungus please? Knocked over at the edge of a lawn by old tree stumps.
It's a beauty. 14 cm diameter.
Thank you 😊
Wonderful programme. Very moving to see @simon_reeve in Papua New Guinea. I was there in 1979 as a young researcher. No tech of course, but remarkable people helped me make sense of their astonishing home.
Here’s to the exceptional team who’ve made the first Wilderness2 episode .. in Papua New Guinea …
Huge thanks to all of them. Applause all round.
Journey 1 takes us deep into PNG — into extraordinary forest and remote communities.

Hay harvest done. Pale gold fields edged in purple - scabious and knapweeds and late flowering clover - I spy autumn unfolding…
A fine bright afternoon. Swimming with grandchildren, sandcastle building, mermaid sculpting. We watched gannets diving & fish flitting through sparkles of gold. After weeks of rain, these late summers days are most welcome.

Our lush green Highland summer.
Notes from a small croft by the sea and an antidote to the terrible heat endured everywhere else.

45 years ago I married my mountain man. Mammy insisted he wore a top hat. Mammy & I made & decorated the cake which my Daddy said needed iron girders to hold it upright. (The cheek!)
We had 4 incredible kids in 4 years (crazy, right). They love this wild world as much as we do.

Govt planning c. 100 new data centres by early 2030s, mostly in water stressed areas - with no legal duty to disclose how much water they use. Meanwhile Govt launches £75m publicity campaign to urge us to reduce water use & privatised water companies waste 19% thro leaks. Madness

The latest in the series of letters to Kirsteen is about wildflowers, our green Highland summer. While the South has baked & burned, life has bloomed here, cocooned from heat & fire. But the worry still bites, the melancholy grows. We do what we can.
