For more than two months, I have been working on a truly horrific story about one of the gravest war crimes committed by the United States since Vietnam: The bombing of the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Iran. It was one of the first targets struck in the opening hours of the war on February 28, 2026. At least 156 people were killed in the U.S. cruise missile strikes—120 of them were children and 26 were teachers. We spoke to survivors, first responders, parents, doctors, teachers, psychologists, and other witnesses. Some of them had never before shared their experiences of that day. It would be impossible to do justice to what happened in Minab that day with words alone. In more than 25 years in journalism and reporting on war, I do not believe I have reported on a more heinous single crime. Massacre at Minab: The School That Became a Grave dropsitenews.com/p/minab-sch… Please share this story with as many people as you can.

“The ideology and program of fascism ... are merely an intensification of attitudes which have already been shown to be characteristic of imperialism. ...Foreigners and racial minorities are blamed for misfortunes the nature of which is not understood. So far as internal economic and social problems are concerned the program of fascism is a mass of ill-digested and often mutually contradictory proposals which are notable chiefly for their unmistakably demagogic character. ... What gives to fascism coherence and vitality is its stress on nationalism, its demand for the restoration of a strong state power, and its call for a war of revenge and foreign conquest. It is this which provides a firm foundation for rapprochement between fascism and the capitalist class.” ~Paul M. Sweezy

“Finance capital does not want freedom, but domination… It needs a politically powerful state which … will ensure respect for the interests of finance capital abroad, and use its political power to extort advantageous supply contracts and trade agreements from smaller states; a state which can intervene in every corner of the globe and transform the whole world into a sphere of investment for its own finance capital. Finally, finance capital needs a state which is strong enough to pursue an expansionist policy and the annexation of new colonies… The old free traders believed in free trade not only as the best economic policy but also as the beginning of an era of peace. Finance capital abandoned this belief long ago. … The ideal now is to secure for one's own nation the domination of the world, an aspiration which is as unbounded as the capitalist lust for profit from which it springs. Capital becomes the conqueror of the world, and with every new country that it conquers there are new frontiers to be crossed. These efforts become an economic necessity, because every failure to advance reduces the profit and the competitiveness of finance capital, and may finally turn the smaller economic territory into a mere tributary of a larger one. They have an economic basis, but are then justified ideologically by an extraordinary perversion of the national idea, which no longer recognizes the right of every nation to political self-determination and independence... Instead the economic privileges of monopoly are mirrored in the privileged position claimed for one's own nation, which is represented as a 'chosen nation'. … An oligarchic ideal of domination has replaced the democratic ideal of equality.” ~Rudolf Hilferding

To Posterity: They tell me: eat and drink. Be glad you have it! But how can I eat and drink When my food is snatched from the hungry And my glass of water belongs to the thirsty? (...) I ate my food between massacres. The shadow of murder lay upon my sleep. (...) You, who shall emerge from the flood In which we are sinking, Think– When you speak of our weaknesses, Also of the dark time That brought them forth. For we went, changing our country more often than our shoes. In the class war, despairing When there was only injustice and no resistance. (...) But you, when at last it comes to pass That man can help his fellow man, Do not judge us Too harshly.

Do they think of me now in those strange Asian villages where nothing ever seemed quite human but myself and my few grim friends moving through them hunched in lines? When they tell stories to their children of the evil that awaits misbehavior, is it me they conjure? ~Bill Ehrhart

“At a time when the bourgeoisie itself was playing the most complete comedy, but in the most serious manner in the world ... , and was itself half duped and half convinced of the serious character of its own state proceedings, the adventurer had to win simply because he played the comedy as comedy. Only now that ... he himself takes his imperial role seriously and imagines that the Napoleonic mask represents the real Napoleon, does he become the victim of his own conception of the world, the serious clown who no longer sees world history as a comedy but his comedy as world history.” ~Marx

“Xavaier DuRousseau”: a name that can only be Haitian, as well as the namesake of the author of the Discourse on the Origin of Inequality. How is it possible to be a living betrayal of everything you are at such a deep ontological level?

“It’s depressing to think that we'll have to endure Obamaspeak for months if not years to come: a pulp of boosterism about the American dream, interspersed with homilies about putting factionalism and party divisions behind us and moving on […] I've never heard a politician so careful not to offend conventional elite opinion while pretending to be fearless and forthright.” ~Tariq Ali, 2008

“Notre tort à nous, Africains, est d’avoir oublié que l’ennemi ne recule jamais sincèrement. Il ne comprend jamais. Il capitule, mais ne se convertit pas. Notre tort est d’avoir cru que l’ennemi avait perdu de sa combativité et de sa nocivité. Si Lumumba gêne, Lumumba disparaît. L’hésitation dans le meurtre n’a jamais caractérisé l’impérialisme.” ~Frantz Fanon

We are daily witnessing the vindication of Samir Amin's old prophecy, that under late capitalism the old nationalisms would “be replaced not by internationalism, but by a pan-European neonationalism (pan-occidentalism) with racist overtones and defining itself primarily by opposition to Asia.”
