The Westmorland Dales - a hidden gem in the north-west corner of the National Park. From spectacular limestone pavements and crags to drystone walls, old limekilns and sweeping views, it's a landscape shaped by nature, heritage and centuries of farming. 📸 Andy Kay

Eighteen Ukrainian soldiers died fighting for the U.S. in Iraq. Many more Ukrainian pilots and contractors died in Afghanistan. Zero American soldiers fought for Ukraine.

The Temple of Artemision in Ephesus, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was an architectural masterpiece admired and praised endlessly by ancient writers. This magnificent temple resembled an art museum not only for its monumental scale but also for its unique works created by the most skilled hands of the time. Its altar bears the signature of Praxiteles, who shaped the elegance of Classical sculpture. However, in the face of the destructive effects of nature and time, only a few column drums and a single broken column rising in the middle of the vast marsh have survived from this splendor to the present day. But even though the stones have crumbled, the indelible mark and creative legacy of the Artemision have lost none of their vitality from antiquity to the present day.

America got infiltrated by a state that wanted to watch the United States burn from within. They let a fox inside their chicken coup. Even those that supported Trump are struggling to ignore this anymore. Trump is and always has been a Russian Asset bending to the will of Putin.

📰🇺🇸 US officials are secretly preparing to counter Trump's interference in the midterm elections to the US Congress, — The Washington Post The group includes about 10 current and former national security and Pentagon officials, they are quietly advising state authorities and congressmen on how to prepare for a scenario in which the Donald Trump administration will try to interfere in the elections on November 3 to keep the Republican Party in power. In particular, they fear that the White House will send troops or immigration agents to polling stations or try to cancel the election results based on allegations of fraud. The officials' fears are shared by congressmen and senators from both parties.

WSJ: Some U.S. officials say that Musk acted unilaterally and that Trump didn’t specifically order any retribution against Ukraine. But a person familiar with the situation said Musk talked to multiple senior administration officials, including with Trump, before imposing the new speed cap, which Ukrainian officials said had allowed Russian missiles to evade their defenses.
WSJ: Elon Musk ordered the slowdown of the military-grade Starlink network used by Ukraine, according to U.S. officials and people familiar with the matter. Trump and Musk have both expressed anger at Ukraine for attacking Russian diesel refineries, which Trump blames for high energy prices. Last week, Musk capped the connection speeds of Ukrainian devices, rendering some attack drones and interceptor drones virtually useless.

"During Operation Vivaldi, units of the 3rd Army Corps successfully used armored vehicles twice to conduct mechanized assaults behind Russian lines... According to Biletskyi, armored vehicles can no longer serve as a conventional reserve rapidly deployed after an enemy breakthrough. 'Today, the use of armored vehicles is effectively a special operation. It requires extremely detailed planning and the coordination of a huge number of assets,' he explained... The first mechanized assault helped Ukrainian forces partially encircle the settlement of Nove. During the second assault, Ukrainian armored vehicles advanced about 4.5 km behind Russian lines and deployed infantry in the rear of Russian units. The Ukrainian troops then attacked wooded areas where Russian drone operators were stationed. According to Biletskyi, losing these positions deprived Russian forces of some reconnaissance capabilities and FPV drones, allowing Ukrainian units to keep advancing. The deployed Ukrainian infantry operated virtually surrounded for several days while continuing to destroy Russian drone operators’ positions. Biletskyi said he believes the raid contributed to the subsequent collapse of a significant section of Russian defenses." militarnyi.com/en/news/ukrai…

This morning, Pina Picierno, Vice-President of the European Parliament, began a hunger strike to draw attention to the situation in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky, which is under Russian occupation, and to help save the lives of civilians, including children. Russia is starving the city's residents. Her decision comes in response to Pope Leo XIV's appeal for a ceasefire and efforts to save the people of Oleshky. Residents must receive food and medicine, and those who are able and wish to leave must be allowed to do so. Thank you, Pina! Let's come together and try to save these people. They are eating crows and grass. People are dying in the streets and in their own homes. There are children there. We can spread information about what is happening in Oleshky. Journalists can report on the situation. We can reach out to members of parliament and political leaders in our countries. We must ensure that humanitarian aid reaches Oleshky and that civilians can evacuate safely. #SaveOleshky

Germany is saving the day for Ukraine right now. See what they are sending them below. It’s about time the rest of the world wakes up to teach Putin, Trump, Musk, Vance, and the rest a lesson, and a good f**k you to them while they are at it!
🇺🇦🇩🇪 THE END OF PUTIN'S DRONES! GERMANY IS SENDING UKRAINE ITS LATEST SKYRANGER AIR DEFENSE SYSTEMS! Germany is supplying Ukraine with advanced Skyranger mobile air defense systems manufactured by the German defense company Rheinmetall. These modern, highly automated air defense systems are designed to intercept drones, cruise missiles, and other low-flying aerial threats, providing a powerful additional layer of protection against Russian attacks. Key features and capabilities: Drone-free zones: Each Skyranger unit is designed to protect a designated area against hostile unmanned aerial vehicles. Under suitable operational conditions, a single system can help establish a protective zone covering approximately 4 × 4 kilometers. Intelligent ammunition: The system uses programmable airburst ammunition. Instead of relying solely on a direct hit, its cannon fires projectiles that release a concentrated cloud of tungsten subprojectiles at a precisely calculated point in front of the target, dramatically increasing the probability of destroying incoming drones. Versatile platforms: The Skyranger family includes the Skyranger 30, equipped with a 30 mm automatic cannon and optional short-range air defense missiles, and the Skyranger 35, featuring a powerful 35 mm KDG revolver cannon. The modular turret can be integrated onto armored vehicles, including Boxer platforms, while the Skyranger 35 has also been developed for integration with Leopard 1-based vehicles. High rate of fire: Depending on the configuration, the weapons can achieve rates of fire of approximately 1,000–1,250 rounds per minute, allowing rapid engagement of incoming aerial threats. For Ukraine, these deliveries are particularly important as Russia continues launching waves of attack drones against cities, energy facilities, and other critical infrastructure. Putin's drones are facing an increasingly dangerous enemy. Germany is helping Ukraine build a stronger shield over its skies. 🇺🇦🇩🇪

BIG | 🇺🇦🇷🇺‼️ Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces commander, Robert Brovdi, known as Magyar, reports a record pace of Russian personnel losses in October, claiming that Ukrainian drone units are eliminating one Russian soldier from the battlefield every 162 seconds, or 2 minutes and 42 seconds. According to Brovdi, Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS) had already fulfilled their planned monthly target for Russian personnel losses by 7 PM on October 19, twelve days before the end of the month. He reported 10,027 Russian soldiers killed or seriously wounded between October 1 and 19, compared with 6,376 during the same period in August and 8,097 in September. The reported figures represent a 57% increase over August and a 23.6% increase over September. These are Ukrainian military figures that have not been independently verified. 🔥 The sharp increase in reported Russian casualties highlights the expanding effectiveness of Ukrainian drone warfare and its growing importance in frontline operations. Sustained losses at this scale could place considerable pressure on Russia’s ability to replenish infantry formations and maintain offensive momentum. The figures also demonstrate how unmanned systems are increasingly shaping the battlefield through persistent surveillance and precision strikes. See the latest updates with us: @NSTRIKE1231

I have been trying to think of what Trump’s hideous “ballroom” project reminds me of — and I finally have it — it is Nicolai Ceausescu’s infamous and unfinished House of the People in communist Romania, which also brought awfulness to a lovely downtown. It features a huge ballroom with niches for portraits of the dictator and his wife and a sliding roof so that a helicopter can enter and exit. The building also had a nuclear bunker. The aesthetic sense of the two men is much the same but Trump’s construction will probably be even worse.

French political commentator and philosopher Philippe Lemoine argued in 2022 that Ukraine could not resist Russia, and no supply of weapons would help. He said instead that Ukraine’s best option was to die in large numbers because he thought that would at least generate sympathy from the Russian people. Before the full scale invasion, he had been making (or attempting) jokes about people who thought Russia would invade Ukraine. But it’s Eastern Europeans who are delusional, he insists today.

Mamdani: I think that there is no better event to be asked that question because I am standing here announcing the expansion of free child care for an additional 10,000 children across our city. Free child care for two-year-olds across the entirety of the Bronx, the entirety of Staten Island. And if Bruce Blakeman was the governor, that would not be the case. Oftentimes, politics feels like a hobby you have to have enough money to care about. Our politics is one that delivers for those people who don’t have enough money in their pocket. And everybody else. And what the governor has shown is that she measures her success by the success of the families she’s elected to represent. Bruce Blakeman is running on a vision where he wants city government and state government to do less. Less assistance to working families. Less compassion for those who are needy across our city and state. He wants to cut the Medicaid budget in half. He wants to work closer with ICE. He looks at a program like Universal Child Care and says that it’s a reward for lazy parents who are going to sit at home and watch The View. That’s the idea that parents are lazy—I do not even know how you can come to justify that when you look at all that’s required to raise a child in this city.

During my time at the National Security Council, my colleagues and I worked to persuade European allies to reject Huawei’s 5G technology. The concern was not simply that Huawei was a Chinese company, or that we distrusted Beijing. It was that telecommunications infrastructure is foundational to modern society and national defense. Whoever controls critical components of that infrastructure may possess capabilities that extend far beyond the product being sold. A compromised telecommunications network can expose sensitive information, facilitate surveillance, disrupt communications, or create opportunities to manipulate systems. Remote access, software updates, and privileged administrative controls can become vulnerabilities if a supplier—or the government capable of compelling that supplier—chooses to exploit them. open.substack.com/pub/alexan…
