Scotland will continue to act as a good global citizen, with international development and humanitarian funding increased to £16 million in the draft Scottish Budget.
We know that people aren't affected by flooding equally, with different situations making recovery harder.
We are pleased to be a part of the Floods Resilience Taskforce, working with sector partners to ensure that people get they help they need in the event of extreme weather.

📑 Developing a national refugee integration strategy with sustainable funding for language & employment support.
💡Creating a four-nations ‘Displacement Response Framework’ based on lessons from Ukraine, Syria, and Afghanistan ready to activate in future crises.
As climate change increases the frequency and intensity of severe weather events in the UK, the risks are growing. Our new report shows that the ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from flooding is not experienced equally by all communities. ⬇️
This research shines a light on the experiences of people in the UK facing socioeconomic disadvantage, who have lived through devastating flooding. It reveals a stark reality: those least able to cope with the impact of flooding are often the least able to access support. ⬇️
This report is a call to action for policymakers and all involved in emergency planning and response. It urges us to listen to those most affected and to make sure support reaches people when and where it's needed most.

A statement from our director of refugee services, Alex Fraser, on today's UK-France Leaders Declaration 👇
Today’s announcement has the potential to help some people who are desperately trying to reach safety in the UK – but this shouldn't be at the expense of denying other people protection.
#Refugees

ALT To meaningfully reduce the number of people taking these dangerous journeys and prevent further loss of life, we want to see the government create a safe protection route that is more inclusive, and that sees the people behind the numbers. Those crossing the Channel are human beings - women, children and men who have already endured unimaginable trauma and suffering. We must never lose sight of this. Alex Fraser, Director of refugee services for the British Red Cross
British Red Cross Chief Executive, Béatrice Butsana-Sita, responding to yesterday's National Emergency Alert test announcement - as set out in the UK Government Resilience Action Plan.

🧵The government’s new plan to boost national resilience is an important step to make the UK better prepared for emergencies. It recognises the vital role of the voluntary sector and the need for a “whole of society” approach (1/5)
We welcome the focus on inclusion. No one should be left behind in a crisis. That means clear, accessible, and actionable information and support for all (4/5)
The real test? Turning this plan into action on the ground. Let’s make preparedness a shared priority (5/5).

This afternoon our UK Director for Refugee Support and Restoring Family Links, Alex Fraser, gave evidence to the @CommonsHomeAffs to inform its inquiry into asylum accommodation 🧵
He went on to note that people seeking asylum often find themselves left 'out of sight' in unsafe or isolated accommodation. This can adversely affect their wellbeing.
Improved safeguarding and clear accountability structures are key to addressing this, he says.
Alex closes by highlighting the value of a compassionate and trauma-informed system which helps people to recover, rebuild and integrate their lives in the UK.
Our report, 'We want to be strong, but we don't have the chance', further addresses this: bit.ly/3Ylauhu
