clinical medicine may be the largest biological experiment ever conducted, yet we still learn far too little from it.
i explored this idea, and much more, with my close friend Najat Khan, PhD, CEO @RecursionPharma
A new generation of AI companies believes it can reduce the number of failed drug trials, by discovering entirely new biology. bloomberg.com/news/newslette…

Our bodies’ molecules aren’t static so why do many AI models treat them that way?
Without considering the physical movement of molecules, many AI tools fail to robustly capture what makes drug candidates promising.
AquaGen is a generative AI framework built to close that gap: an all-atom, explicit-solvent model that runs an order of magnitude faster than traditional MD methods.
We’re excited about the implications of this work on early-stage drug discovery.

Despite headwinds in capital markets and some big pharma strategy shifts in the UK, I’m deeply optimistic about #TechBio here!
AI-discovered drugs are showing Phase 1 success rates well above industry averages, and the UK’s TechBio talent is world-class.
Thanks to @BIA_UK for bringing the community together. Huge opportunity ahead 🇬🇧!!!

It’s an incredible morning here at @RecursionPharma as we kick off our annual TechBio Symposium! 🚀
For the first time since the Recursion and Exscientia teams combined last year, our entire company is together in person—a deeply meaningful moment. The energy in the room is absolutely palpable!
The theme of the week is #OneRecursion, and that’s what this is all about: forging a truly unified team. This event is our intentional investment in building and strengthening the connections across countries and continents, disciplines and functions. Over the next two days, we’ll see over 120 employee-led talks, all designed to deepen our shared understanding of how each of the pieces of what we’re building—from biology to chemistry, engineering to machine learning—come together to deliver on our mission.
I’m kicking things off with a keynote on our forward-looking vision: Recursion in 2030 & Beyond.
But that vision is just a blueprint. To execute it, we need shared conviction, passion and commitment – and that’s what comes through most when I look out at this crowd. What we are doing—creating a new kind of end-to-end, industrialized drug discovery engine from the ground up—is expansive, challenging, and has never been done before. We're trying to fundamentally build a better way to discover and develop new medicines, and the people in this room are the ones who will make that ambitious vision a reality.
I’m leaving the stage feeling energized and profoundly optimistic about the future we're building, together!

Big bets on technology have changed many industries. But where is that same boldness in pharma?
Our industry is trapped by conventional thinking and incrementalism. Delivering breakthroughs requires systems-level changes – and a willingness to embrace ambitious ideas and the failures that inevitably come with striving along the way.
I share more on this topic in a new article for @FastCompany, which you can read here: fastcompany.com/91395315/bet…

We're thrilled to announce the formation of the new Multiomics Steering Committee on Polaris!
By "multiomics," we refer to the integration of high-dimensional data modalities at the cellular level, encompassing molecular (DNA, RNA, protein) and phenotypic (imaging-based, multi-cell-line viability) readouts.
