Support is key, too! #CADAChat xitter.cf/Rehabs/status/98706048…
A1: Having a doctor and working through a regimented program gives you a support group and a better chance at succeeding! You can utilize alumni, and hopefully will have access to a therapist. #CADAChat
Thanks to everyone who participated in today's #RBRoundTable chat. Such a great discussion about something that's hugely important. We'll be back in a month with another chat. In the meantime, be well. And tell your friends about us, too!
Because... YOU'RE WORTH IT!! #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/Recovery_Org/status/98…
A8: Use your google calendar or all of those apps out there to set aside some "me-time". There's so many meditation apps and daily reminders you can use so that you make sure to put yourself first! #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/RecoveryBrands/status/…
#SelfCare when you're dealing with an addicted loved one can be hard. But you HAVE to do it. #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/deanokat/status/986346…
A8: I think you have to work at it. It's not easy. Especially early on. It helps to plan things ahead of time. And, even though you may be tempted, STICK TO YOUR PLANS. Don't let a loved one's behavior control YOU!! #RBRoundTable
Q8: How can you practice self-care every day & make sure you’re at 100% for your loved one? #RBRoundTable

A7: All on the same page today! Support groups will help you realize you're NOT alone on this journey. If you're unsure of what your town has to offer, go online or ask city officials to point you in the right direction, or create your own! #RBRoundTable

A7: Support groups are so important for loved ones & the person struggling. Here are the links to 1: Nar-Anon: nar-anon.org/ 2: Al-anon: al-anon.org/ #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/RecoveryBrands/status/…
Q7: Thankfully, there are many support groups and lots of information out there for loved ones. What are some resources you would recommend? #RBRoundTable

You have to learn to love yourself. I truly think that this is one of the hardest things in life- and trying to do it while your loved one is struggling makes it even more difficult! #RBRoundTable
Q7: Thankfully, there are many support groups and lots of information out there for loved ones. What are some resources you would recommend? #RBRoundTable
Putting yourself first goes against basic human instinct. But once you start doing it, you figure out why it's so important. #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/Rehabs/status/98634424…
A6: It may feel weird to put yourself first during this stressful time, but it's necessary! Put your mask on first #RBRoundTable
Two thumbs up! (I'd give you more if I had more thumbs!) #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/deanokat/status/986343…
A6: You're no good to anyone if you're not at/near your best physically and emotionally. Plus, YOUR life is the only one you have complete control over...so you need to focus on taking care of YOU first. #RBRoundTable
Q6: Why is it so important for loved ones to practice self-care during this difficult time? #RBRoundTable
Great advice. And, for the record, most conversations with an addicted loved one are tough. ;) #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/Recovery_Org/status/98…
A5: Don't shy away from the tough conversations. They are the only ones that will help create change. Be open & honest, don't use judgement or threats when trying to nudge them on the road to recovery. #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/RecoveryBrands/status/…
Q5: Everyone wants to see their struggling loved one get the help they need. What are some ways to begin and navigate these difficult conversations? #RBRoundTable

A4: Addressing your loved one while they're trying to manipulate you can be tricky. If you know that your actions will help them get to their substance, stick your foot down and say no. Don't drive them or give them money. (Much easier said than done ☹️) #RBRoundTable
If nothing changes, nothing changes. #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/Rehabs/status/98633978…

Once they know they can manipulate them to get what they want, why would they stop? There's no reason to change your behavior if there aren't any consequences. #RBRoundTable
Q4: Sometimes in active addiction, our loved ones will manipulate us to get what they want. How can you recognize & address these types of situations? (Speaking of manipulation...) #RBRoundTable
Following through with boundaries is soooo important. If you fail to stick to your guns, your loved one will try to manipulate you constantly. #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/Rehabs/status/98633911…
A3: Supporting is following through with the boundaries you set. If you say you won't give them more money, don't. If you say you'll kick them out next time you catch them using, follow through. Your loved one needs to understand the consequences of their actions. #RBRoundTable xitter.cf/Recovery_Org/status/98…
