Never too high, never too low 💙🖤🤍

Think tonight is easier to take because it was Champions Cup. Realistically I was never convinced we can compete against UBB, Toulouse and Leinster this year, especially with a SA trip in pools. The bigger worry is what it exposes about where we are with big Prem games coming up

One good ✅ The young lads - Green, Griffin, Jeanes - all acquitted themselves well. Arguably our best players on the night One bad ❌ The front row was ineffectual for the second week in a row. Not just scrum, where refereeing felt harsh, but in all aspects

When does Big Joe’s handling become a liability? Tonight was not an isolated incident, and it turned the whole game

BATH 14 - 32 MONTPELLIER Serious reality check for our European prospects. We actually looked the more physical in the first quarter but after that we were flat, passive and got battered at the breakdown. Couldn’t cope with the refereeing and didn’t impose our game in any way. Very concerning. Next Friday is huge 💙🖤🤍

Need to get hold of the ball. We look a level above them when we’re picking and going with pace

Piardi rewarding Montpellier’s scrum for driving in the direction of Weston-super-Mare ↗️🤔

Nowhere better 🏡💙🖤🤍

Rarely sympathise with Bristol but they’ve been done by two forward passes there #STOvBRI

Tomorrow’s opponents. Lots of familiar faces for Finn! Excited to see Lennox Anyanwu against Max and Ollie. Experience on the bench too - big job for our young lads to do to make an impact against them #COYB

🇫🇷 MONTPELLIER (h) 💙 Spence is back! Big boost for this and future weeks 🖤 JvG backs young lads. Griffin deserved to keep his place, as did Green given no du Preez/Coetzee. Jeanes is the big call 🤍 Big week for Beno, Dunny and Stuart. They will have been disappointed with last week. Have a hunch they’ll come out firing Cannot wait to be back at The Rec #COYB

This. Highlight reel games decided by the few 22 entries that don’t result in tries are not the best version of rugby. It’s not attack’s fault. Defence needs to get better. We’re not basketball. (*This is still true when Bath win high-scoring matches)

NORTHAMPTON 71 - 48 BATH Expectations were lower because of selections but given where we were after 45 mins, that was actually very disappointing. Hats off to Saints - their skills are wonderful. But we can’t brush off conceding 11 tries and almost a point a minute. Defence just looked optional in the last half an hour. Biggest frustration was the lack of impact from the bench. The starters put us in a position to win but our biggest names couldn’t get up to the speed of the game and we dropped off a cliff. Really disappointing. That said, some hugely encouraging performances - Green, Kepu and both Griffins all excellent. The future is bright, but here and now we need to fix our defensive basics 💙🖤🤍

😇 NORTHAMPTON (a) 💙 Lots of changes (as always seems to be for this fixture). No Pepper, du Preez, Roux, vd Linde. Feels like a pack designed to stay in the fight until 50-60 mins and then unleash the bench 🖤 Midfield defence will be crucial and I think this is our best defensive centre combination 🤍 Big opportunity for Charlie Griffin, who is a very exciting prospect Hard to see a victory with big rotation and Saints smarting from their loss last week, but we’ll give it everything. 2 points would probably be a decent return #COYB

Bristol showed how you have to disrupt Northampton at the breakdown. Wonder if we’ll start Guy Pepper and Miles Reid together this week

Mixed bag of injury news 👍 Santi back for Saturday, progress for Spencer, Muir and Hennessey ⏱️ Waits on Big Joe, vd Linde and Cam 👎 TdG out and still no Arundell somersetlive.co.uk/sport/oth…
