12 years this night our precious son was taken from us in the early hours of the 8th. Zane Died, Authorities Lied. 12 yrs on and no lessons learnt, no prevention of future deaths & flood alerts in play. We call for #ZanesLaw to ensure what happened to Zane, never happens again #TruthAboutZane

FBU EC member for South East, Joe Weir moved a motion, on Zane's Law at TUC congress on Monday. The motion was unanimously backed.
TUC affiliated unions have now joined us in the fight to get Zane's Law into legislation, for better landfill regulations to protect our communities.

I worked next to John Prescott’s office in the House of Lords for a few months. He was terribly loud especially when he was watching the footie in the office and he was quite liberal with his language. Definitely a presence. I also remember he was quick-witted, warm and human.
My enduring memory is his poor assistant having to fax all his letters and emails to his home when he wasn’t in the office as even by 2017 he didn’t know how to use email!
A very authentic individual who will be much missed 🌹
Today I went to Stanwell to honour the fallen. At this somber time each year I think about one of the most beautiful books I have read in my life - A Testament of Youth. Surely one of the most raw moving accounts of the damage war inflicted on a generation. An experience which we always pray our children will never live. #RemembanceDay #RemembranceDay2024

Grieving parents from Surrey have handed in a letter to 10 Downing Street calling for an inquiry into their son’s death.
An inquest found Zane Gbangbola died from carbon monoxide poisoning, but this is disputed by Zane’s parents Nicole and Kye.

A must read! Let’s get #justice for Zane & clean land for homes.

Great discussion at this round table on how to address the SEND crisis…funding…more EPs…senco workload…curriculum reform…inclusive practice….
Great news for parents of #SEN children. ATM our best source of information on this is word of mouth. Hope it will encourage schools to do more to tackle bullying & teach children that #neurodiversity & #disability enrich society.
📋 Breaking: Ofsted will check the quality of schools' support for vulnerable pupils and the disadvantaged and 'grade down' those that turn away children with SEND under a new 'inclusion' criterion in proposed report cards

Delighted to endorse @RachelDBurgin for exec of @LabourWomensNet She is both a strong advocate for women in Labour & also a kind individual who gives her time and advice willingly. LWN members will literally be able to pick-up the phone to her.

When I was at uni of Liverpool I went to #Southport to enjoy a beautiful day out by the sea and to relax after finishing exams. It was indeed a peaceful and family friendly place. So my heart goes out to that lovely community who have experienced such trauma over the past 2 days. What happened to those little girls is every parent’s worst nightmare and indeed every community’s.
To attack and kill children is beyond comprehension, and what is also beyond comprehension is looters and rioters using the tragedy as an excuse to terrorise residents, attack frontline workers, destroy property and steal alcohol and cigarettes.
May peace soon return to Southport. Those little ones fighting for their lives are in my prayers along with the families who have lost their princesses.
bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cv2g… I found this article fascinating, in some ways more so than the “My first day at Hogwarts” pieces.
There are many individuals who were disappointed that they were not sworn in last week either because they were candidates who just did not have quite enough votes or because they weren’t selected as candidates in the first place.
When desperately fighting to be a candidate or to be elected I’m sure not many think beyond the Parliamentary term & what they might do if they lose their seats at the next election or if they may even be considering giving up that “dream job”.
How employable will they be after serving in Parliament & not keeping up with the skills in their current line of work, especially if they spend the next few years on the backbenches? Many will have to take a pay cut, possibly quite a whopping one for some. Then there’s the whole matter of coming back down to Planet Earth. How much of a mental challenge is that?
Many of the seats won on July 4th were done so very marginally so quite a few MPs taking the oath last week maybe facing reality much sooner than they may like.
Btw if the elections of 2019 & 2024 have proved anything it is that there are no “safe seats”. #GE2024

Family members always know how to bring you back down to earth. There are no excuses now the election is over, apparently...
A tour on your first day in #Parliament! What luxury! When I was a staffer I was left to find my own way around, which meant walking into big heavy wooden doors expecting them to open not realising you needed to swipe your pass. Finding an old 1950s office equipped with an ancient bath rather than a cafe. Getting told off by my boss for taking too long because I’d got lost. Also getting chased away from one of the lobbies which I’d accidentally found my way into. Nonetheless it was exciting to work my way around and like no other office I’d worked in before or since.
