History is blunt: once fascists win power through #Democracy, they’ve never been removed by it. Not once. This thread draws on a FB essay shared by Karl J. Martin, attributed to “Chris Armitage.” I couldn’t verify the author, but the history is sobering 🧵

“He went around them.” Translation: Trump authorized Russian diesel imports despite a federal law banning them and specifying how that ban can be lifted. The law’s sponsor says Trump violated it. Where’s the evidence he followed the law? Since when does “America First” mean easing restrictions on Putin’s war economy?
They tried to screw Pres Donald Trump & make sure he went into the midterms with diesel through the roof. So he went around them.

So @ubereats decided it was a good idea to order my meal from a location 20 km away… when there is an outlet half a kilometer away! And no ability to cancel the order, or even see my order/invoice to cancel it. So instead of canceling the order, they will deliver an order that is cold and inedible… And we will ask for our money back. Not a credit like they seem to enjoy forcing down our throats, but a 100% credit back. Nice job Uber Eats!

HOW DARE YOU put this man in a military uniform? My mother was in the French Resistance. My father was an Air Force colonel. My uncle, my brother-in-law and my nephew served too. I know what four stars on an Army general’s shoulders represent: service, duty and responsibility. Putting a man who took five draft deferments in that uniform is shameful. The sheer disrespect is astounding.

Classic Trump: Lies, falsehoods and opinions dressed up as facts. When Canada walked away because Trump’s deal wasn’t good enough for Canada, it was weakness. Now Trump walks away because Canada’s deal isn’t “good enough for America”. Apparently, it’s only “hardball” when he does it.
🚨 WOW! President Trump announces Canada called him, BEGGING on their knees for a deal — but he said "NO" because the deal is NOT America First enough Hardball mode. The days of WEAKNESS ARE OVER 🔥 "Canada would like to make a deal, but we're not satisfied with it. We've been losing, on average, 80 to 90 billion dollars a year with Canada." "Canada's been ripping off our country for many, many years. Tremendously ripping off. They've been charging tremendous tariffs, one-way tariffs, 400% on dairy products and other things." "They're not ripping us off. We don't need Canada for anything. You know, they do 95% of their business with us!" "We do very little with them by comparison. And Canada's been very difficult to deal with." MARK CARNEY IS WEAK. He's throwing a fit while trying to cozy back up to Europe to make up for his losses and pressure America! Keep raising tariffs and charging them more until Canada treats us FAIRLY. We have no good reason to sacrifice for them when we DO NOT NEED CANADA

Did Eby miscalculate? He called it two years early with the NDP ahead 41 to 37. Angus Reid now has the Conservatives up 48 to 43. #bcpoli #BCElection

So this is where we are: Alberta separatists reportedly proposed using the province’s oil royalties and water as part of a deal to secure U.S. support for separation from Canada. No agreement has been struck. Public Safety has referred the matter to CSIS. This deserves very serious scrutiny. #cdnpoli #abpoli

So let me get this straight. Trump can impose tariffs on Canada, but throws a hissy fit when Canada puts counter-tariffs? Then he puts more tariffs because of those counter-tariffs? Oh my God… how old is this person, three?

They gang-raped a woman. She has to live with this nightmare every day of her life. They had to write an essay.

Privilege. @Cornell you can and should do better. What the eff were you thinking? That you might lose alumni donations if these pukes were expelled and punished?
So 22 students were arrested, suspended, and banned from Cornell University in 2024 for protesting genocide, yet in the same year a girl was raped by seven other students who received zero consequences and were allowed to continue attending university. Protesting and utilizing a protected right under the First Amendment results in being banned from campus, but raping a student for multiple hours is perfectly fine? @Cornell you claim to encourage freedom of speech on your campus and say you take sexual violence seriously, guess both of those things are false.

Bettina calls him a ‘dear friend.’ Kremlev reportedly first met Don Jr. a couple of years ago, and they were publicly appearing together by September 2025. Eight months later, Kremlev gives them a lavish two-night wedding celebration on private Bahamian islands as a "wedding gift." Trump now says Don Jr. paid him back, and in true Trump form, no public evidence of the repayment has been provided. But psst, DJ… ya shouldn't have accepted the gift in the first place.

Trump has been lambasting Carney for Canada opening new markets because of the trade war Trump started. Canada: “We should diversify so we’re less dependent on the U.S.” Trump: “How dare you.” Trump now: “Let’s make a deal with China.” So apparently opening new markets is only a problem when Canada does it.

Trump: “Canada is destroying itself by allowing millions and millions of people into the Country, essentially unchecked and unvetted, and who are causing problems that will soon be too big to handle” Maybe worry about your own country. We’ll take care of ours.🇨🇦

Oooh, David Eby… you’re counting on an opposition in disarray, they’ll tighten ranks. The NDP record is meh. The fiscal picture has deteriorated since 2024. The last election cost BC tax payers +$80M. Voters are stretched - they don’t need this. Not sure you’ll get the results you expect.

“To the victor belong the spoils.” In plain English: Trump is saying that because the US defeated Venezuela, the US is entitled to Venezuela’s oil. Plus he needs to learn math. 🎤⬇️
Trump at the UN on Venezuela: When you add the United States and Venezuela together we have more than 60% of the oil in the world. To the victor belong the spoils.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The US and Venezuela combined hold roughly 22% of global proven oil reserves (Venezuela ~17%, US ~5%), not more than 60%. worldometers.info/oil/oil-reserv… worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankin…

Whitehouse: “None of this is an accident”. This behaviour, these “decisions”, are a pattern that is repeated over and over by Trump and his administration. Wake up!
Sheldon Whitehouse is a national treasure. Why is it that nobody seems to pay attention to the seriousness of these words?
