There was an earthquake here in Colombia today. My mother, my tag partner, and a good friend who’s worked as a cameraman for several promotions I’ve wrestled for reached out just to make sure I was okay. Sometimes it’s moments like this that remind you who genuinely thinks about you when there’s nothing they need from you. Really puts things into perspective. Thankfully I’m okay. The more countries I visit, the more I notice how different human connection can feel. Some of the most genuine, consistent people in my life are people I’ve met through my travels. People thousands of miles away who still check in, send a WhatsApp message, remember what’s going on in my life and maintain the friendship without needing anything from me. Meanwhile, I can have “friends” in the States who live less than two hours away and barely hear from them unless there’s a reason. And that’s probably the biggest difference I’ve been feeling lately. Transactional relationships vs. genuine ones. Too many friendships seem to last only as long as what you can offer. Your connections, your usefulness, your access, your time, whatever it may be. Once there’s nothing to gain, you find out how much of the relationship was actually real. Yet somehow, people I met in another country can stay consistent without expecting anything other than friendship in return. Maybe it isn’t strictly an American thing. Maybe traveling has just shown me that genuine connection exists in places I wasn’t looking before. Either way, distance has taught me something proximity never did. Man, why does everything sound so much more pleasant in a British accent? 😂 They could hit you with the most tragic insult and you’d just be standing there nodding like, “Fair enough,” because somehow the accent softens the blow.

I haven’t seen this much unity in years. The World Cup is helping the world remember we’re not as different as we pretend to be. Now if we could just keep that same energy after our guests leave instead of going back to being assholes. 😂

I’ve been fortunate enough to see different countries, different cultures, and different walks of life. One thing remains true everywhere: Children don’t need a perfect father. They need a present one. Happy Father’s Day.

It was good to step away from wrestling for a weekend, catch up, laugh, and just be around people who have been there through every version of me.
