We can't normalise any of these things without the structural conditions that make them possible - decent pay, employing more staff, spreading workloads more equitably, reducing hours, etc.

In academia we need to..
normalize rest
normalize self-care
normalize mental health care
normalize taking breaks
normalize struggle and rejection
normalize diversity
normalize not being machines
normalize emotion
normalize being human.

Reported that Richard Sharp will be the new BBC chair. Very significant in terms of the future of public media. Short thread on his background.

This is a very accessible (and genuinely entertaining) introduction to ontology and epistemology. Tom takes an unapologetically critical realist position, which will please some and not others, but the clarity of his explanation of these complex issues is of value to all.

Fractured society. My PhD is on midlife women and alcohol (New Zealand) so it really helped me link post-structuralism with the material aspects of daily lives. My favourite part is where you talk about materiality and how it affects "cultural scripts".

Sooo recording a video abstract turned out to be a lot of fun, 2 intense hours goes a long way in the great company of @dennisjimaau! But apparently the language of #criticalrealism is tongue-twisting - apologies for the profanities :) #researchdissemination

We "must work to ensure the public not only have access to the latest reliable evidence, but have been involved in how that evidence was produced. This is particularly true if the views they are sharing could be used to undermine public health measures"
