🧵For those new to my feed, or newly unblocked-
Yes, I know exactly what I look like, yes I understand many find it offputting or at the very least incongruous. Some people find this context helps:

Why Do I Look Like...This? The SexyCyborg Origin Story
A few of you know the broad strokes, this is more detail about how it happened-

7 years ago, I wrote a guide to electronics in Shenzhen. @realsexycyborg is releasing a new version that reflects the latest changes in the markets and the culture. I love the new red cover, too. 🥰

Ok for those of you that haven't figured it out I got my wings clipped and they weren't gentle about it- so there's not going to be much posting on social media anymore and only on very specific subjects. I can leave but Kaidi can't so we're just going to follow the new rules and that's that.
Nothing personal if I don't like and reply like I used to. I'll be focusing on the store and the occasional video. Thanks for understanding, it was fun while it lasted.
I've been talking to Chinese and foreign friends at the markets for @bunniestudios and my "New Essential Guide to Electronics in Shenzhen" which led to this amusing tidbit of advice for the "Weather and Dressing" section😂
"Chinese tend to sweat quite a bit less, so on a sweltering day, you may encounter somewhat panic-stricken staff urgently pressing you to accept paper tissues as if you’ve sprung a leak and are about to expire. If you ignore the issue, they will stare at you in horrified fascination for the duration of the meeting. A cloth handkerchief deals with the issue easily and elegantly. Don’t blow your nose with it."
Go check it out! Looks like an incredible lineup!
ALMOST SOLD OUT!! the general admission tickets to OpenSauce are almost sold out! If you want one, you're going to have to get it quickly.

I'm not a "wood person" but wax turned out to have the nicest finish of everything I tested on 3D printed wood. Although it is all *very* labor intensive😅

There are also alternate forms of Upper-Room GUV that can work with lower ceilings. Namely, Egg-Crate GUV- which is even more powerful than conventional louvered Upper-Room GUV while being safer at the same cost, and Crown-Molding LED GUV, which is completely invisible and dimmable to TLV.
Rooms with either of these could hit 20 eACH easily at negligible cost per year and leave filters to mop up PM2.5 and any secondaries.

ELI5:
A lot of what I argue about/for with clean air boils down to cleaning with one of those Swiffer things, or a mop and bucket.
Swiffers are cheaper to buy than a good mop and bucket, arguably easier to use, and work very well- but the long-term cost of ownership, particularly if you make them a standard and implement them at scale, is tremendous.
A good mop and bucket is a higher upfront expense, harder to use, but is also far more powerful and has a far lower cost of ownership.
This is very, very loosely the situation- filtration=Swiffer, mop=GUV, but keep in mind you really need *some* filtration because it's the only way to deal with pollution. No filtration is not an option- but all filtration seems sub-optimal also.
Filters require ongoing consumables- which will mean constant budget struggles because people seem ideologically opposed to the idea of clean air, GUV needs about $5-10 in maintenance a year. Power consumption is similar.
If you ignore actual feasibility and pesky things like money, and environmental impact, just recommending a Swiffer everywhere is the obvious safe choice. It also completely ignores the real world- where money and environmental impact actually do exist and Swiffer alone is a horrifically wasteful solution to cleaning floors compared to both Swiffer and mop.
Multiple stand-alone filter units per classroom. With all the accompanying fire-code and electrical issues. When we can't get them to install even one or leave it turned on when they do.
Definitely, a realistic recommendation that is going to be implemented at scale anyplace but the richest schools in North America🙄
Might as well throw in a pony. Shit, as long as we are asking the Jinn for our three wishes why not just get kids in masks? Stands about the same chance of happening.

Twitter this is Calvin. Calvin thinks it's funny to offer women his "meat stick".
Calvin, Jane is a recent immigrant and alone in a strange country. This makes your behavior- already wildly inappropriate, even more so.

Keep the anti-vax/anti-mask messages coming, just letting me know I'm that much closer to winning the COVID tontine💅
This is missing out on a huge part of the exchange- that Shein's BIPOC customer base felt patronized and pandered to. They were treated like they were gullible and would be easily bought off with modest representation, and they very reasonably resented that.
Shein, a Chinese fast-fashion retailer, invited six influencers to examine its factory conditions in China... but the social media campaign ended in a wide backlash. trib.al/d26biIa
What I'm amazed at is the "how to do business in China" opinion haver crowd is totally missing out on the broader implications of such a staggeringly large hole in China's already fairly shaky PR game.
This is (previously) fairly reliable play China uses constantly- for everything. The non-representative showpiece (person, place or event), and a certain demographic reliably claps and plays along as if it's real. But this demographic has massive purchasing power and absolutely did not appreciate someone trying to treat them like they were stupid.
You could do a whole semester in business school on just this and why there was such a massive difference.
It's a little suspect that they started with beef and pork- when a large part of the non-white people in the world can't eat those animals instead of chicken or lamb🧐 If you want to make the biggest dent in hunger and animal cruelty/carbon footprint, why not make the animal protein the largest number of food insecure people can eat?
These soy beans have been modified to contain pig protein, making them pink inside! Would you eat them? newscientist.com/article/238…
