You would think Portugal became a superteam the second Ronaldo stayed on the bench.
Norway held their own. More of the ball, more shots, better chances. Portugal needed a goalkeeper howler from Nyland for Ramos to put them back in front. 1-2 on the scoreboard. The game itself was not some statement that the squad is finally free.
Ronaldo is just the favourite scapegoat because of the name and because people already hate him. This Portugal side is not that great. The reason he does not have a World Cup is not him. It is that the rest of the squad have never been on his level.

What surprised Antony most about Cristiano Ronaldo wasn’t the superstar on the pitch, but the person he saw in the dressing room.

Ronaldo would joke around, talk to everyone and deliberately steer conversations away from football. That’s a side of him you rarely hear about.
I actually like that. Ronaldo has spent his whole life obsessed with football, but he still knows when to put it aside and talk about life. For me, that makes him more interesting as a person than anything he does on the pitch.

He’s won two Copa Del Rey titles with Sociedad. That’s half of the total Copa Del Rey the club has won in their history. He scored in both finals.
He’s Sociedad through and through. His buyout clause is €75m, he doesn’t have an agent, a clear indication that he’s not about the move.
He’s not a player you’ll remember for scoring many goals but he’s won everything a player of his ambition can win. And he’s doing it at home, with his people.
There’s no greater career than that.

Bellingham is arguably the best midfielder in the world right now. The consistency, goals, physicality and influence are on another level.
