To the people telling me capital punishment is not a deterrent, here is what God says:
"Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid." -Deut. 21:21.
So if it's not a deterrent, it's because we don't carry it out swiftly, publicly, or consistently enough. Start doing that, it will be a deterrent.

Many are assuming that public executions are meant as a violent spectacle or an occasion for bloodlust. But as prescribed in the Bible and practiced throughout Christendom, public executions were meant as a punishment for shocking acts of wickedness, a deterrent to provoke fear in other evildoers, and a chance for the entire society to remember the severe justice of our holy God, as well as the dangers of unrestrained sinful behavior. When public executions are not practiced, society is deprived of these clear benefits, and evil flourishes to the detriment of the innocent.

Lane Kiffin could have stayed and they would have built a statue of him. Mississippi would have revered him and his family for generations, especially if he had secured a national championship. But ultimately, I think he believed he was too good for Mississippi.
