Upon my return to Cape Town, I could not bring myself to just drive past this place. Ten young people lost their lives here. 21 people were shot. This one hits differently. I grew up in this area. These streets shaped me. This is home. I know some of the people who died and some of those who were injured. Standing there, it is difficult to accept that so many lives could be changed in a matter of minutes. These are not just numbers. They are not another crime statistic we will read about today and forget tomorrow. They were sons and daughters. Mothers and fathers. Brothers, sisters and friends. People with plans for tomorrow. Some carried the hopes and dreams of entire families. This is not the Strand I know. I really hope the police get to the bottom of this. Our community needs answers. The families deserve justice. Those who survived deserve justice. Trust in the authorities is already at an all-time low. Solving this case will not bring these young people back, but perhaps it can give their families some answers and restore a little faith that their lives mattered enough for someone to be held accountable. Ibuhlungu le into. Strand is home. And home is hurting 💔
