Alice In Chains Album Ranking from Worst to Best #2: Facelift (1990) How much do I love this album? I believe this is a TOP TEN debut album of all time! And what makes this album so special, is that it’s the PERFECT bridge between what had come before it with the Hard Rock of the 80s, and the developing revolution that was taking place in the Grunge movement! I feel like this album should be the most accepted by those standing on either side of those two musical scenes. Because there’s something here for BOTH factions! And this is the album that made me fall IN LOVE with Jerry Cantrell’s guitar playing! One of the MOST unique guitar tones EVER! And it also helps that EVERY SONG on this album is an absolute BANGER! There aren’t a lot of opening statements on a debut as KICKASS as ‘We Die Young’ and ‘Man In A Box’! The latter being legitimately one of the BEST Hard Rock singles of ALL TIME! ‘Sea Of Sorrow’ and ‘Bleed The Freak’ are both mid-tempo MONSTERS! ‘Freak’ having maybe my favorite chorus on the whole album! But my HIGHLIGHTS of the album are more atmospheric and slower songs like ‘I Can’t Remember’ and ‘Love Hate Love’! Where the second of those two songs has LEGIT one of the BEST vocal performances in Rock HISTORY! ‘It Ain’t Love’ just shows that Jerry can just be FUCKING AROUND and create one of the most unique riffs ever!😂 Songs like ‘Sunshine’ and ‘Put You Down’ sound like they could’ve come RIGHT out of the 80s Hard Rock Scene! Showing the band was NOT above what they admired during that era. I LOVE Staley’s vocals on ‘Confusion’! So good! ‘I Know Somethin (Bout You) and ‘Real Thing’ are FANTASTIC as well! This was in fact the first album I ever heard from AIC. And the SECOND I heard it, it was instantly one of my favorite albums of all time! So my biased might be A LITTLE skewed😂 But that does NOT understate how PERFECT this album is! This is…almost the peak of AIC for me. But there’s something else that just goes to a whole different level beyond even this album…
